my eyes slowly open and i rub them tiredly. i look beside me and i see that, matt, is still sleeping. we've been laying down on his bed all morning, then about an hour ago we ended up taking a nap together. it's also been a little over a week since we started dating, and so far it's been amazing.

matt starts to blink repeatedly, trying to open his eyes. he yawns and looks over at me, he smiles, "that was the best nap ever." he stretches out his arms.

his phone suddenly rings and he groans. he throws the blanket around, trying to find his phone. he finds it and answers it, i'm pretty sure it's, joba, i can hear his voice from where i am.

about three minutes later, he hangs up the phone and rubs his eyes, "the boys are making burgers at joba's house, and they want us to come over."

i sigh, then i lay my head on his chest as he strokes my hair, "i really gotta work on some homework, i'm falling behind in almost all of my classes."

"i'll stay with you." he offers. i don't wanna be the reason why, matt, doesn't wanna go hang out with the boys.

"it's okay, go have fun."

"you sure?" he asks and i nod.

i get off of him, and we both roll out of bed, "i should get going then, i'll see you later." i kiss his cheek.

he returns it by kissing my forehead, "i'll come over later to check up on you." he says, and i give him a thumbs up and walk out the door.

MATT'S POV

i drive over to, joba's, house in silence. i wish i could've stayed with everlee, but it seemed like she just wanted to be alone to do her school work. i wouldn't be much help anyways.

i arrive to his house and as i walk to the front door, i can hear laughter coming from the backyard. before i knock, the front door swings open, revealing a girl that i've never seen before.

she smiles, "who are you?"

"joba's friend," i look at her in confusion, "and who are you?"

"i'm madison, i'm a friend of his too." she holds her hand out for me to shake. this is painfully awkward.

i don't even glance at her hand, so i just slowly nod my head, "did he hire you to open his front door now?" i ask.

she nervously laughs, "no, i just saw you coming up to the door, so i went ahead and opened it for you."

she stares at me, and she's still in my way. this is the point where i'm starting to feel fucking uncomfortable. "so, when are you gonna get out of my way? today? tomorrow?" i cross my arms.

"oh, yeah, sorry." she says softly and then moves herself to the side, letting me in. i walk inside, and head towards the back of the house where the back door is. i instantly see, joba, wearing an apron and flipping patties on the grill. i head over to them, giving them all a first pump.

"we saw that you met, madison," bearface lightly chuckles, "how was that?"

merlyn passes me a plate, "painful." i reply.

"she seems a little weird, but she's kinda hot." ameer says.

"guys, be nice," joba scolds us, "she's just a little shy, it's her first time meeting you guys."

madison enters the backyard, cutting off our conversation. joba, calls out that the burgers are ready, so we all get our plates and make a line for him to serve us. once we all have our burgers and drinks, we sit at the picnic table that he's been having since we've been in middle school. we had a lot of memories on this very table.

i'm sitting in between madison and romil, and he's the first one to speak, "so, how did you meet joba?" he asks her.

we all look at her, waiting for her to tell us, "we have a class together." she says.

joba nods, "we're partners in calculus."

i bite into my burger, and i feel madison stare at my bracelet. she points at it, "is everlee your girlfriend?" she takes a closer look at it.

i nod, and then smile by just hearing her name. i pull my phone out of my pocket, go to my camera roll, and show her a picture of, everlee, "this is her. she's lovely isn't she?"

she gives me a weak smile and slowly nods, "yeah, sure."
