Chapter 34: Heritage and Serena

I was dumbfounded to not only find Igneel standing in front of me but there was also the fact he looked half dead as he was currently using the wall for support with one hand and clutching a very nasty wound on his stomach with the other, yet he still smiled up at me through the pain.

Igneel: "Hey kid you look good mind if I *Grunt* come in?" Without any hesitation I quickly put his arm around my shoulder leading him inside.

Me: "Korra we need water now!" She gasped at the sight of Igneel and was about to rush off when Igneel stopped her."

Igneel: "I'm afraid normal healing doesn't work for us Spirits please just sit I fear it's already too late." I looked at him in horror as I set him down on the couch.

Me: "Igneel do you mind explaining what the hell happened to you? Obviously no normal person could do this to you." He chuckled a bit before wincing in pain.

Igneel: "I'm afraid you're right for this was no ordinary person... but a god." We looked at him in shock and Igneel just sighed a bit before continuing. "His name is Serena and he was the second Avatar but instead of bringing balance he only brought destruction, he abused his powers both as an Avatar and a Dragon Slayer as he tried to take over the world." Is shifted a little in my seat.

Me: "But wait if that's the case what happened to him? How did you stop him before?" Igneel just smiled shaking his head a bit.

Igneel: "I didn't do anything." He then looked at me dead in the eyes. "It was your father." My breath halted and I started to tremble a bit.

Me: "But how is that possible? Dad wasn't around back then... right?" Igneel shook his head at me making me even more confused.

Igneel: "We might not have told you everything about your heritage, it's true that you are indeed my grandson but the other thing is that your father was also a dragon like me but instead he was considered a god among all of us and when he finally settled down with your mother he sealed his powers turning himself mortal until his death that is." I just stared at him in disbelief before pacing the room a little.

Me: "How long were you planning on keeping this a secret from me? I thought we all agreed that it was time to tell the whole story not just part of it, I'm sick of all the lies so tell me right now is this the last secret from you?" Igneel just nodded at me before grunting a bit.

Igneel: "It was your father's choice to keep your heritage a secret and also the fact that he is currently hiding in the Spirit World since he was a god after all." I just looked at the ground. All this time and yet he never told me a damn thing. "He had his reasons I'm sure even with your mothers constant bickering at him... but I'm afraid that's not all that's going on in the Spirit World for Serena has returned somehow and he has started war against both the real world and us dragons for your mother is the only one left alive right now." My heart just about stopped right there.

Me: "What do you mean by moms the only one left?" Igneel looked down sadly and he started to glow a little as part of his body began to fade.

Igneel: "I'm afraid my time is up, I used the last of my power to come here and warn you about Serena for he will destroy both worlds if he escapes I'd say you all have only but a month so I beg of you reclaim your heritage and stop Serena before it's too late." He started to fade more and I desperately reached out for him only to have my hand pass through him. "I'm sorry I kept things from you and I'm proud to see what a fine young man you have become so please save this world." And with that he disappeared completely leaving Korra and I alone. I just sat there staring at where he last sat hoping for him to return or something.

Me: "Igneel." I felt tears start to form in my eyes for I just saw not only my teacher but my family just disappear forever never to return again. I felt Korra put her arms around me squeezing me tightly. "I... I don't understand he's a spirit right? Spirits can't die." Korra just shook her head into my back.
