Chapter 20: A New Master

When I woke up next I was in my room back on Air Temple Island and everything hurt once again. I sat up a bit and noticed Olivia and Wendy sleeping on a makeshift bed in the corner of the room. I smiled at that happy they were both alright now and looked back down to see my chest was bandaged up as well as my right leg, I glanced over at my left arm to see it was wrapped up at the nub covering up to the top of my shoulder. I frowned at it remembering what happened but quickly shook it off as I stood up quietly to get dressed which was rather difficult to do with just one arm but I'll adjust to it quickly later. Once dressed I was about to step out until I saw myself in the mirror I walked up to it to see a new scar that looked like a jagged arrowhead on the left side of my face running from the base of my jaw near my neck up to the middle of my cheek. Then there was a jagged cut running from the top of my eyebrow crossing over my right eye stopping a little below it I also realized my canines where longer than they were before making me look like an animal or something. I sighed a bit and walked out of the room to try and find everyone and Korra. I walked down the halls as everything seemed to be too quiet until I hear some chatter going on in the dining room. I slid the door open and saw Tonraq, Sue, Lin and Tenzin all sitting around a table looking grim. I walked over to them as Sue was the first to notice me immediately standing up to give me a hug.

Sue: "Oh thank goodness you're alright I was so worried when you passed out, you've been out for two days while Olivia has been out for just one seems like she received the least of the damage." I sighed in relief as I sat down in between Sue and Lin. "Now tell us what exactly happened when you left." I took a deep breath and filled them in on everything that happened during our battle with Zeref and what he was planning to do once I finished they just nodded at me sadly.

Me: "How's Korra by the way is she awake yet." They all looked at one another before Tonraq spoke up.

Tonraq: "She woke up yesterday she's healing quite nicely but... she has serious nerve damage in her legs and will have to relearn how to walk." I nodded and looked down sadly.

Me: "I'm sorry Chief Tonraq it's all my fault." He shook his head at me saddened.

Tonraq: "How could this possibly be your fault it was all Zaheer and Zeref's doing." I just shook my head at him.

Me: "I was there when they put the poison in her body I could've stopped it all if I was just stronger." I closed my eyes feeling a few tears start to form I failed to protect what I love now she's hurt because of my weakness.

Tenzin: "Brandon you are one of the most powerful benders I have ever seen and I am proud to have been by your side during your journey you cannot possibly feel like any of this is your fault especially with what's happened to you." They all nodded in agreement.

Lin: "Tenzin's right kid you're tough as nails first you get a hole blasted in your side and still fought that dragon now you got your arm blown off but still kicked Zeref's ass and you came out carrying your sister when you had no energy left and only worried for her own safety you're the complete opposite of weak." I chuckled a bit at that it's rare for Lin to compliment someone like that.

Me: "Thanks Lin but I just need some air right now I'll be outside if you guys need me."

Tenzin: "Aren't you going to see Korra." I shook my head.

Me: "Maybe later I just need to clear my head." They nodded sadly as I walked out of the room. I stopped and sat down on the railing at one of Tenzin's meditation temples as it looked over all of Republic City. It's not like I didn't want to see Korra it's just that I don't know how she'll react to me I'm practically useless now. I sat there for a while until I heard someone walk up behind me turning to see that it was Asami. "Hey Asami what's up." She said nothing as she came up to hug me.
