After having been tended to medically, Alison was released with instructions that she was to return if her symptoms returned. She was told that her hands should be fully healed in a couple of weeks and she was to follow up with her own medi-Witch.
Sebastian kept his music down as well as refrained from smoking in the car while Alison slept fitfully next to him. He did pull over once and lit up a cigarette in the parking lot of a McDonald's though and then swung through the drive through for something to drink. While waiting their turn to order, he woke her up.
"Hey," he whispered.
"Are we home," she asked as she looked around completely confused.
He smiled. "No. I needed a smoke and something to drink. Do you want something? Are you hungry or thirsty?"
"Iced water," she whispered.
He nodded. He was well aware that the burn sustained from a fire wraith wasn't enough to kill, unless you were already weakened, and even then, several had to attack simultaneously...but the dehydration factor could, if accompanied by a fever...Alison and James had presented both symptoms.
When he pulled up to the speaker box, he ordered a medium coke without ice and two very large iced waters with several pieces of lemon...each.
He looked toward her, the thin nylon scarf protecting her head and neck and the long sleeves of her blouse covering her arms. Her hands were still bandaged from her grabbing at the wraith's hands and pulling them off of her...she wouldn't be able to use them for weeks the nurse had said.
She dozed off, having drank one water immediately, then chewed on the remaining ice. She started on the second one, but only finished half of it.
He told her that his father promised to be on hand in case he was needed. He neglected to inform her that her Grandmother and Aunt Lynn were also lodging in the old Victorian, having arrived only two hours prior. He thought the surprise might cheer her up.
Walking up to the old Victorian house,They arrived at the house to find Judy sitting in a wooden rocking chair, pretending to knit while the girls were playing with James's cat Max. The cat wiggled away from them and came running toward the fence, but to their surprise, was beaten to the car by Judy who reached for her with shaking hands. Then without warning, she gently embraced her friend. "I actually prayed..."
"I know...Thank you," Alison replied, whispering in her ear. She looked up and spied Doctor George Matus gazing at her from the door with what looked to be sorrow in his eyes.
Sebastian grabbed at the cat before it could take off down the street and grimaced as he held the animal tightly to him. He huffed when he heard it purring and finally settle in his arms.
"He did too," Judy said quietly motioning with a tilt of her head toward the Elder Matus.
Sebastian looked over toward his father, still standing on the wooden porch. "Hmm, Dad looks really, erm, aggravated."
Judy turned to look toward the elder Matus. "Perhaps a little? Come on, let's get you inside?"
Sebastian grimaced...he was second-guessing his decision not to tell Alison that her Aunt and Grandmother had arrived only hours prior...he at least informed her that her aunt had called about her. Somehow, he thought that he had still managed to get himself in trouble by not disclosing everything...
There was a tiny parade of people waiting to see Alison, George being at the head of the line.
"Ali," he said. "Let me see your hands?"
