Beth was busy putting together the various meats for the dogs as well as the cats when Alison and James walked through the door to the kitchen. She offered to assist and Beth explained that she was almost finished, but she could certainly feed them and wow the guys...Alison snickered.
Beth took the food bowls up to the cats and let them enjoy their breakfast in peace while Alison brought the dogs in; each running up the basement stairs so fast that the entire house seemed to vibrate. Without being asked, each dog sat in a specific place and they watched the doorway for her appearance. She placed the food bowls down before each dog, whose laser-like gaze were focused on her as they awaited their cue. She walked over toward the table and retrieved her cup and topped it off, then took a sip. James and Sebastian watched the dogs head's move to follow her, not removing their gaze even for a second. She flipped her fingers in the air. "Eat," she said and the dogs devoured their breakfast in less than a minute.
"That was impressive," Sebastian exclaimed with awe.
Alison shrugged her shoulders. "It's just working with them. That and being consistent with it."
"And my dogs can learn to do that?"
"Certainly not over night, but yeah."
"And behave?"
Alison nodded.
"That would be cool," James said.
"And not happily maul Alfred!"
"Those dogs can get out of control at feeding time. I feel so sorry for Alfred."
Again, Alison nodded. "Yeah."
An expression of guilt washed over Sebastian's face and he sighed hard. "They are a wild bunch. Not getting rid of Cody though..."
"Now listen here," Alison exclaimed. "I do not want you to get rid of your dogs, just because mine are highly trained."
"What all can they do," James asked, trying to ease the tension, but he figured that he had a fifty-fifty shot on settling the impending argument.
"What can't they do is more like it," Beth said as she watched her sister shift uncomfortably in her chair and held out her hand. Paddy was the first to take his bowl in his mouth and bring it over to her to place it in her open hand. The other two dogs followed suit.
"Oh well, now you're just showing off," Sebastian grumbled.
She grinned as she nodded and looked into his green eyes. "Yeah."
Leaning against the counter, cup in hand, Beth smiled, bringing the cup to her lips as she locked eyes with her sister. Alison understood that Beth would divulge her secret when she was ready and promised herself that she wouldn't push, as she was wont to do. She could sense that whatever it was, it was big and hoped that she wouldn't lose her cool.
"So, what do you want to do now, Brain," Beth asked.
"Same thing we do everyday, Pinky..." Alison replied grinning. "TRY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!"
Beth giggled as did Alison, as James began to chant the Pinky and the Brain song. Sebastian sat perfectly still, his eyes flitting back and forth, his brow raised high. Alison pouted hard, protruding her bottom lip as he brought his coffee to his lips and came right to it: "any idea as to how and when you would like to bury the horse? You know it needs to get done post haste, I know you do."
"Well," Alison began thoughtfully, "I have a few questions first?"
Sebastian nodded and smiled. "Of course..."
