Sebastian showered quickly and changed his clothes. There was no time for a shave and he curled his lip at himself in the mirror. He looked around the room and shook his head, tiny droplets of water spraying away from him landing all over the mirror. He looked at his reflection again, specifically at the sorry state of his appearance. Alison knocked on the door and poked her head in; his gaze landed upon her and he breathed in deeply. Finally he smiled.
She let herself inside the humid room and turned on the fan and stood next to him and looked up at him and smiled as she fingered his hair away from his face. "Hey, are you okay?"
His green eyes locked to hers and he felt them fill up a bit. He looked away and laughed, then licked his lips and looked at her again. "I think I just realized how much I really do love you."
His confession touched her deeply and she raised her hands and caressed his face and raised herself on her tiptoes and kissed his still swollen lips. "Are you going to brush your teeth?"
Taken aback, he pulled away slightly until he saw her grin. "Why do you ask..."
"You taste like me still."
He looked at his reflection and grinned as he inspected his teeth, then turned toward her again. "Then...No. I love the way you taste. Always have."
She shrugged her shoulders and she licked her lips again. "Okay."
He chuckled as she opened the door, the cool air assaulting his senses as she descended the stairs, their time together, as fleeting as it was, still fresh in his mind. "Hey..."
She paused and turned toward him and looked up into his eyes.
"Do you think we just made a baby?"
She leaned on the railing. "Well, When Grandmother's spirit was in Alexis, she told me that I was already pregnant. But I did the math and it doesn't work out."
He nodded.
"But this does," she said quietly.
Sebastian breathed in deeply and he held it for a moment before expelling it. "Are you okay with that?"
"Don't have much choice, do I?"
He stepped down closer to her. "Of course you do," he whispered.
"I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't even a little nervous about it."
"Understandable," he replied quietly. "I am as well."
"I don't have a very good track record..."
"You gave birth to James, don't forget..."
"Yeah, but he was a firstie..."
"Well, perhaps you weren't with the right guy?"
"I'm praying that it's that easy."
He lowered his head to hers and kissed her brow.
Beth appeared at the bottom of the stairs. "Okay you two love birds, I packed up the cookies and the wine. Are y'all ready to go, or should I convey your..."
Alison turned to face her sister and walked down the stairs. "Don't push it," she said as she walked past her.
Beth watched her from the corner of her eyes, then looked up at Sebastian who towered over her like a Californian cedar tree. "And you?"
He too walked past her, relieving her of the wine and cookie tin. "Wot..."
Beth shook her head and smiled.
Sebastian held up the wine bottle. "And you don't get any of this," he teased.
She sneered and stuck out her tongue at him as he laughed, remembering the little bird of a girl he used to carry around on his shoulders two decades prior.
