Alison looked out from the tree branches down at the tan-skinned young man with the hulking black Wolf by his side. From her perspective, they were huge. She heard a buzz above and raised her head to see. Red dragonfly was hovering over her. She playfully swatted at the insect and could have sworn it stuck it's tongue out at her...Missed me, it said. Alison's gaze returned to the young man the the large Furry with the big teeth.
"Mate," he whispered, still eyeing up his unfamiliar surroundings.
Wolf's nose twitched, his sensory receptors on over drive. Ocean, he thought. He pawed at the coarse grass sticking like needles into the pads of his paws, hearing the crunch beneath him.
"Up here," Alison said aloud. Her gaze shifted all around her at hearing a cat's meow. She took another look around and noticed that her hands weren't hands at all, but furry paws so dark that they looked almost black. Still, she could see the sun's light reflected back at her is a colorful spectrum of colors. "Hey," she said, again sounding like a cat's meow. "BAST," she said with more urgency in her voice.
Wolf looked up into the tree's branches as did Indian Dude, who smiled finally. "There you are!"
He smiled and held his arms up as if to receive her only to watch the cat's ears flatten to her head. Wolf snorted.
"I've got you...come on down," Indian Dude told her.
Alison gingerly took a step and felt her claws extend from her paws, trying to hold her weight steady.
"Jump," Indian Dude said, "we don't have all day..."
Alison huffed, still afraid to retract her claws and meowed again.
She watched Sebastian transform into his human form and levitate his body upward. "This is new," he said quietly. "Come on Love, I've got you." He held out his arms and finally circled his fingers around the trunk of the small cat's body. He watched her body hunker her body down to meet the branch, then he took her small paw beneath his fingers and gently withdrew the claws from the tree's branch one by one only for her to place her paw someplace else and dig in again. "Oh Ali, come on!"
"Y'all ain't gonna get her down that way," Lynn said leaning on one of the columns that held up the wooden awning over her porch. She jingled a pouch of treats, garnering Ali's complete and undivided attention. Sebastian pursed his lips hard as he watched the small black cat scamper across the branch and inch her way down the trunk of the tree. He huffed as her paws touched the ground once again.
Lynn swooped the cat into her arms and held her close, kissing the top of her head. "Y'all come on inside." She looked up into the tree and eyes the reddish-gray Cardinal-looking bird as well as the dragonfly. "Y'all too, come on."
The bird tweeted and the dragonfly buzzed its wings and flitted off toward Sebastian and Indian Dude. Upon entering, both the bird and the insect transformed into two young women. A pretty girl with blonde hair winked up at Sebastian and the girl with purple hair smiled up at him. "Who are you," he asked quietly.
Her eyes shined and she smiled up at him. He felt the palm of her hand stroke his cheek. "Aww Daddy," she gushed as she stepped over the threshold of the doorway.
Sebastian appeared lost in thought for a moment. "I know you," he whispered. Looking toward the pretty blonde, he smiled as he looked into her blue eyes. "Hello Doctor Dolittle," he said warmly.
The young woman bowed her head ever so slightly. "Salutations..."
"Should I be jealous," Alison purred.
Sebastian turned to see his wife standing beside her aunt, then he chuckled. "These two are our baby girls all grown up," he said with pride.
Alison stared at the girl with the lavender-colored hair, motioning with her brown eyes toward her hair.
"Favorite color," she replied to the unasked question and watched her mother nod. But the blonde merely stood quietly by.
Alison approached her and looked her up and down. "You look like your father," she whispered, attempting to keep her composure.
"Thank you for not giving up on me," she replied quietly.
Alison nodded. "But I did. I did give up. Thankfully, your father didn't."
She nodded. "Its not that simple," she replied quietly. "I'm sure we'll talk about later. Right now, we have a spider to catch..."
~~~~~
Alison's eyes opened instantly.
"Yes," Lynn said, startling her. "We do."
Sebastian was the last to open his eyes, still wanting to linger with his daughters. He realized that while his little Doctor Jessie Doolittle wasn't in any way his biologically, in his heart it didn't seem to matter...she was part of Alison and SHE was part of him.
He opened his eyes.
"Welcome back, ya bum," Lynn teased.
