After a hot shower, Alison and Sebastian placed their infant daughters in the care of their older daughter and son and emerged for the hospital where Lynn was still being worked on in their magical surgical unit. He informed her that he had sent for the medi-witch who'd always worked on him and that Lynn was in very good hands.
Alison quickly joined her mother and Aunt in a small healing circle. Sebastian was instantly reminded of seeing Lynn with her own sisters, praying for Alison. Sebastian stood by uncomfortably as Topher and Judy arrived. Alison opened her eyes and smiled warmly toward her friends and then glanced toward an empty chair. Topher pulled the chair up next to Alison and quietly urged his wife to sit, telling her that Lynn would greatly appreciate her efforts.
"But I'm not kin," she whispered.
"May not be kin, but I dare say she'd consider you family," he replied as he looked toward Alison for approval.
"Hon, Lynn would tell you to sit your hiney on the chair and do your thing," Alison said. "Clasp our hands in yours and we'll let you in."
Judy breathed in deeply, her emerald eyes filling quickly.
"Please," Alison whispered. "I can't do this oracle thing without all y'all to help me..."
Judy sat down quietly beside her friend and placed her hands on Debbie's and Alison's. The women slid their hands apart and then clasped Judy's tightly, then loosened their grips so that Judy would be comforted.
"Where's that dog of hers," Topher asked.
"At home," Sebastian replied without thinking.
"How do you know?"
Sebastian shook his head. "No idea..."
They both looked toward Alison as her lips curled into a bright smile.
An hour later, the women took turns taking breaks, with Judy having taken several bathroom breaks in addition to drinking lots of water at Diane's insistence.
Lynn's five children entered the waiting room, as Sebastian and Topher pulled together more chairs for Lynn's daughters.
When asked, Lynn's son Tommy, informed Sebastian that his mother's dog was sequestered in a crate in a hotel room a few blocks away. Sebastian urged the younger man to bring the dog to the hospital as he would no doubt aid in Lynn's recovery.
Overcome with a sense of dread, Sebastian looked toward his wife's face and saw that she was frowning as she shook her head. He knelt down beside her and gingerly placed his hand on her arm. Alison opened her eyes and looked at him and smiled. He gasped at having seen her normally brown eyes a bright blue.
"There you are...look honey, I am real tired." She looked over toward where the dog was now up on all fours, whining. "Ohhh...who's gonna take care of you then, huh?"
"Lynn," Sebastian asked quietly.
"Yeah honey...one of the perks of being an oracle apparently. Our Ali knows me as well as anyone, don't she?"
Sebastian nodded. "I reckon?"
"That asshole filleted me like a pig. I'm not sure that I want to come back," she whispered.
"Ali said that she needs you. She said..."
"I know what she said. She's just scared is all."
