Alison retired early, while Sebastian lay in the recliner in the living room pretending to read War and Peace. He reached for his cup and sipped on the cold coffee, grimacing.

Breathing in deeply, he looked around the room at the furnishings and period-artwork on the walls as well as the various pieces of art and flowers that seemed to litter the room...As lovely as it was, it all screamed of sterility to him. Like a hotel, there was nothing of the personalities of anyone in the house. It was designed to be that way...it had become a safe house for people of interest and nothing more.

He recalled when he first saw the house, he was reminded of her and her love of Victorian architectures...It had been the last time that he had actually laid eyes on her...

The house needed work, but most of it was cosmetic; the foundation was good, the plumbing was decent, only the heating needed to be modernized...there was a coal furnace in the basement and he didn't want to be bothered with that arachnid-looking behemoth at all.
The house boasted six fireplaces and a service staircase to the kitchen from what was to be the master bedroom. He'd thought that he'd cover it up and put in a closet over the stair case and move the kitchen sink to the bottom of the staircase.
He loved the balcony on the second floor; the view was lovely and he envisioned James taking breakfast with him there when the weather permitted.
He thought that he would install a modernized bathroom with a large jetted tub and an enclosed double shower...He and Alison had stayed in a hotel on a whim once that boasted such amenities and she mused that someday she'd have something like that in her dream house...The only thing missing from the property was a barn for her someday-horses...
After the owner accepted his generous offer for the house as well as the two lots on either side, he returned to the house to sign the paperwork.
While the realtor was getting the papers in order, he thought that he had heard an odd sound outside, like someone was on the porch. He was aware that it wasn't James, as the boy was racing through the house, his Bat Man cape flapping behind him as he made enough noise to raise the dead. He let the realtor know that he was going to walk the garden to conduct a mental survey of the flora.
He walked out back and circled around the house then levitated himself off the ground only an inch or so, and moved toward the rear steps of the large wrap around porch. He learned quickly that he wasn't hearing things at all, as he heard the light footsteps again.
He could see movement through the windows and looked harder, nearly jumping out of his skin when James suddenly appeared at the window and waved at him. Sebastian playfully gnashed his teeth at his son and in return, James held up both of his hands and curled his fingers like claws and slashed at the air, causing Sebastian to almost laugh.
When James flitted off someplace else, Sebastian finally saw her peeking into the house through an adjacent window and his heart filled immediately, but he was aware that more than likely, she was still angry with him and he didn't want to risk a confrontation, but he wanted to get a better look at her and perhaps attempt a reconciliation.
He transformed into the Lone Wolf and rounded the corner and watched her: She was still so pretty...She was wearing a pair of blue jeans and a red blouse and he noticed that she had cut her hair short; it was a good look for her. She had filled out a little bit more and he smiled...He saw her look at him, but she didn't appear to be afraid, only startled at having gotten caught looking at the house.
She stood up straight and stared at him for a long moment like she was trying to remember...He completely forgotten the menacing-looking teeth of the wolf and she averted her eyes and backed away slowly.

His mind saw their time lines converging to and fro, back and forth and he finally understood that they really were supposed to be together and the memories of that particular thought was etched firmly in his mind.

He recounted the memory, playing over again and again in his mind...

He had moved toward her and then looked in the window at the realtor who was headed toward their location...he couldn't materialize without having been seen. James had bound around the corner chasing a stray cat to bring home and startled Alison and she bolted away. The wolf jumped off the porch, misjudged the distance and fell. He rolled over and ran after her and stopped at the wrought iron fencing as he heard a car start up down the block and then speed by the house.
The Lone Wolf howled his loneliness...at the time, he didn't care who else heard it...he only hoped that she had heard it too and that maybe, she'd circle back around. He waited by the fence, but she never returned. He found it necessary to cast the emergence spell and materialized on the rear porch. The realtor had heard the howling, made mention of it to him, then made a note in her notebook to inform the animal control people when she returned to her office. The rest of the day, he and James drove around Manitou Springs hoping to catch a glimpse of the little black Ford Escort 2ZX...it was a sexy little car and so, so her. He never saw it again...
