Carrie brought the wolf cub into the exam room that was just through a doorway behind a counter top that served as a desk-reception area. She pointed over to a sink area where Alison could wash her hands up. Beside the sink area on the wall, were several boxes of gloves in various sizes. Travis and Sebastian stood at the door and watched the women work on the cub. While Carrie took the cub's temperature, and listened to his chest and belly, she asked Travis to fetch some of the frozen she-wolf milk from the freezer and instructed Sebastian to fetch a few baby blankets from a cupboard on the other side of the room. Minutes later, the cub was in Alison's arms, nursing from a bottle. "Hungry little guy," she cooed.
"Timmy's in the Army now," Carrie said.
"Wow, time flies..."
"Yeah. I was sorry to hear about your husband."
"How'd you know about that," Alison asked.
"Are you kidding? I kept up with you..."
"Oh?"
Carrie chuckled. "We were at the pet store picking up toys for the cubs and Travis saw one of your books on a shelf. I thought the subject matter was interesting and bought it. Got it home and flipped it over. Sure enough, there you were with some blonde hottie veterinarian. Read the blurb and saw that you'd finally got hitched. I have all your books. They're a great resource. And thanks for not saying that wolves are kin to dogs."
Alison nodded. "Yeah, there's quite the wide spans."
"What do you feed your dogs?"
"I still feed raw," Alison replied smiling.
"Good girl..."
"Okay...ask. I know you want to..."
"Ask what?"
Alison stared at her.
"How are you with Sebastian? I mean, you know, he's not like us..."
"Actually, we're not like you..."
She pumped her fist in the air. "I KNEW IT! I knew it all along!"
Alison nodded as she smiled. "Yeah, you did."
"So how did you two meet? I have never seen him with a woman...only his kid..." She gasped. "Oh my god...please tell me that he's not the the same English guy..."
Alison nodded. "Sorry to disappoint."
"Damn girl! I thought you were smarter than that! He's a lone wolf for sure...Please don't let him break your heart again..."
"Well, hopefully he won't. I've agreed to marry him."
"Oh! Congratulations! Maybe you're the one to tame him finally...we've certainly tried to set him up, not that it mattered...I was beginning to think he was gay..."
Travis ambled up with a clipboard. "Tawny just had a litter four days ago," he said. "Want to try to get the cub to her?"
Carrie nodded. "Yeah. Let's try her, she's the closest. Barring that option, how old are Muffin's cubs now, I'm drawing a blank?"
"Three weeks tomorrow," Travis replied, flipping a page.
Carrie grimaced. "Ooo. She won't work for sure." She sighed and nodded. "Tawny it is." She turned toward Sebastian as he watched with awe at Alison's handling of the cub. "Heard you're getting married finally?"
He smiled and nodded. "Yeah. Erm, how did you all meet?"
"Ali and I were in school together. Heard all about you," she teased.
