Sebastian returned two hours later, doing his best to keep his thoughts to himself. James reheated the bacon and then prepared the refrigerated egg-mixture and toasted the oatmeal bread his father was so fond of.
"What's wrong, Dad," James asked quietly.
Alison heard their voices and exited the bathroom. She sat at the table, and Max jumped up onto her lap. She looked toward James. "Is he allowed at the table?"
"Not really, but if you want to hold him, he'll leave Dad alone."
She smiled and nodded.
"James was showing me his rock collection," she said. "He's got some beautiful specimens."
Sebastian nodded as he attempted to eat quickly. "Picked up most of them whilst on my travels."
"Alison has a purdy rock collection as well Dad. Did you know?"
"Diamonds, rubies and emeralds...oh my..."
Alison's gaze turned from James to Sebastian. "Really..."Sebastian grinned as he looked down at his nearly empty plate.
James chuckled. "I would have thought that her tastes run more along the lines of, quartz, malachite and amethyst, with some selenite thrown in for good measure."
He nodded. "I know, son," he chuckled. "There is a metaphysical shop in Virginia Beach...dunno if it's still there or not?"
Alison nodded. "It's still there. Of course, it's grown exponentially."
Sebastian laughed, "and of course, you would know..." he leaned away and laughed again and looked toward his son. "She dragged me to all the witchy shops in the area when we were kids. But this particular one was like the Bloomingdales of witchy stores and she was like a little kid in a sweets shop!"
"I still have the crystal you gave me," she said quietly.
James' face all but melted. "Awww!"
Sebastian's brow rose high. "And you're not wearing it, why?"
"The chain broke."
He took her hand in his and gave it a squeeze. "Well that's something that I'll have to remedy then, isn't it?"
"But it won't take a chain. It broke a few days after you left the states."
"Oh?"
"Yeah. I've tried to replace it several times..."
"Maybe since you're back together...?"
Both Sebastian and Alison looked to ward him; neither had thought about the implications.
"Are we back together Bastian?"
"Aren't we?"
"Well, I don't know...?"
Sebastian looked away, appearing as if someone had suckered-punched him. "Perhaps we ought to discuss that then?"
"Aww come on! You two can't go your separate ways now," James exclaimed. "I mean, who's going to cat-sit for me!"

They spent half the late morning and the early afternoon inside the tourist attraction, finally exiting at the gift shop. Alison busied herself ogling the overpriced crystals while Sebastian excused himself to take another call. When he returned, he watched James belly up to her, waving a small plastic bag.
"What's this?"
"Nothing too extravagant. Just one of those cheesy grow your own cave kit-thingies."
