Jaiden POV
I couldn't keep my eyes off her. She danced to the music with an ethereal grace. Her long white dress flowed about her with levity. I smiled as a feeling I couldn't explain bubbled in my chest and I felt as if I was going to overflow with lust. Lust? Love? They were the same to me. She finished dancing with Ben, incidentally I wanted to ripped off his arms for dancing with her, and walked over to me a smirk tugging at her lips.
"It would be an honor if you danced with me Sir," Camilla smiled as she curtsied.
My lips spread into a smile as I took her hand and moved out onto the dance floor. To be honest, this ball was lame - it was Alpha Delacroix's idea for me to get to know his two daughters I had taken an interest in. But like I said, this was lame.
I place my hand on her waist, savoy ring the feel of her soft curves under the material of her dress. She started to move to the rhythm of the music, I wasn't a great dancer, actually I was horrible, but she took the lead and I didn't step on any toes. Maybe we were made for each other. My heart pounded with the thought. This was her, it was all I could think and a protectiveness I had never felt before, even though I had a natural proclivity to be protective as an alpha, I had never felt it on a level like this.
This was her.
I was about to tell Camilla my thoughts when the doors opened and in walked the extremely self conscious Anna. I didn't realize that I had stopped dancing or that I was now staring at the girl who had just walked into the room, until Camilla cleared her throat and looked at me less than impressed.
Her scowl made me feel like a child being scolded by their parent. I didn't like it and my wolf growl in agreement. He didn't like it either.
"I'll be back in a moment," I told her, she huffed and walked away.
Shaking my head at her childishness, I walked over to the girl who stood at the back of the room. Was she talking to herself? I sighed as I approached her, why was I doing this? I was so sure that Camilla was my mate, I was so sure, and frustrated. I was frustrated because I couldn't smell my mate, why couldn't I smell her?
"Anna? It's Anna right?" I asked her.
She looked up at me her eyes wide as if she was looking at the sun.
When she didn't answer I continued, "I was wondering if you'd like to dance with me?"She nodded slowly and I smiled. taking her hand I lead her out onto the dance floor. We started to move to the music, it wasn't dancing, more like stumbling, she was as bad at it as me.
A smile spread over her beautiful face, slowly bubbling into a laugh. it sounded like heaven to me.
"What's so funny?"She looked up at me eyes twinkling, "you're a terrible dancer."
"Really? Your not that great yourself," I smiled pulling her closer, she fit against me perfectly.
She giggled, "I know..... I don't really care. We can be terrible together."
Together.
Four some reason the thought of us together delighted me.
"Shhh!" She growled turning to look at her left shoulder.
I frowned, "Anna? I didn't say anything."
"I wasn't talking to you," she stated.
"Then who?" I questioned her. there was no one else around us talking. I didn't understand.
"No one important," her smile turned sad.
I didn't want to make her sad.
"Okay, it doesn't matter," I smiled.
"Mate!" a screech echoed across the floor.
What?
I turned to see the source of the noise, only to find my fourth, Jared, practically eating the mouth of one of the alpha's daughters, I think her name was Jen? They were devouring each other, grunting 'MATE' like they were cave men.
I laughed, Jared and Jen, they were mates. I couldn't help feel sad, why could they smell and recognize each other but I couldn't tell which girl my mates scent belong too.
I felt a hand pull at my elbow, I looked down to find Anna staring back at me.
"Come," she smiled pulling me towards the doors that lead out onto the balcony. We went outside and looked at the stars. We didn't speak, just stood next to each other. I felt comfortable beside her, like this was where I was supposed to be.
"I can smell you," she whispered.
