Eight

Jaiden POV

During the battle I couldn't deny the enduring pull to go to her, to protect her. So when it was over I searched desperately for her, hoping not to be met with a corpse. 'Oh God please don't let me be met with a corpse', I had prayed that over and over as I ran through the halls.

When I saw her, my heart leaped with joy, her skin was full of colour her eyes still had their sparkle. She was alive. she was saying something backing away from me, her eyes wide with fear. She was afraid, but I wasn't sure what it was she was afraid of.

I tried to comfort as I pulled her to her feet, but Anna was inconsolable. I pulled her into my arms cradling her against my chest, I hushed her telling her that she was okay, that she was safe. On the word safe, she stilled her shoulders tensing.

A sour laugh escaped her lips and she shoved me away from her.

"Safe? Do you really think I would feel safe with the man who just a moment ago, violently shoved me onto the ground. Did you really think you could treat me like crap and then come crawling back to me when you were afraid I was dead... mm? Well guess what? You believed the lies of Camilla, you chose HER! Stick with your choose and get out of MY way!"

I stared at her in disbelief, but when I didn't move, her beautiful face screwed up into the biggest scowl I had ever seen as she strutted past me, her shoulder hitting mine. I tuned and my eyes followed her as she left me there. Anna was right though. She was right I had made my choice and I had no right to crawl back to her after I treated her so badly. To be honest I didn't know why I so desperately wanted her in my arms, she had lied to me and tried to take my true mate away from me.

She was a conniving bitch, who thought she could pretend to be my mate so that she could gain status. I scoffed, she wasn't worth my worry, I should have just forgotten about her, forgot the feeling I felt when I saw she hadn't made it into the safe room, the dread I felt as I ran through the halls looking for her long blonde hair. I would forget the fear in her eyes or the tears that ran down her cheeks when she looked at me. I would forget.

But I didn't want to forget, and that was what scared me the most. Maybe, just maybe, I had acted out of anger before, that I was wrong and that Camilla was the one who lied. Maybe.....

No. It was Anna who lied, Anna who is poisoning me with her words of deceit. Anna. Anger boiled in my stomach as I ran from the room and to the foyer where everyone was gathered.

"Jaiden!" I cry escaped Camilla's lips as she ran into my arms. she hugged me, I didn't hug her back. All I could see was Anna's back to me. She was talking to Ben.

I growled.

"Jaiden? Honey? what's wrong?" Camilla's voice stopped my growl.

She moved her hands up to wrap around my neck until she noticed who I was staring at.

He features transformed, "Don't look at that whore my love, she didn't win. I did."

She looked at Anna and caught her attention, before pulling my lips down onto hers. She kissed me and I kissed her back.

She let go gasping for air, and turned around to face Anna with a smirk. Hurt and pain flashed across Anna's face for a moment before her eyes darkened and she scrod fed under her breath, I think she said 'pathetic.'

I hadn't noticed it before, but Anna's ocean blue eyes were no longer crystal clear, no, now they were different, not as bright, not as Anna.

"Jaiden!" Ben, my beta, smiled as her saw me and ran over to slap me on the back.

"Ben," I smiled in return.

"We managed to push the rogues back , weakening them before take bing them down completely. We have several prisoners from the high ranks with in the rogues, maybe we can discover who masterminded their attack?"

"Sounds good Ben, do you have any idea why they attacked?"

"No but hopefully we'll get a better understanding of why when we interrogate."

"Ofcourse," I nodded.

He smiled again at me, "Glad you're okay, mate."

"You too mate."

Sighing I turned my gaze to the ground as my beta walked away.

"Father!" Camilla squealed and ran into her fathers arms. The alpha was worn out and just a little worse for wear but overall he was fine.

"Father, I have the greatest news!! I'm going to be the Luna queen, Jaiden has chosen me to be his mate," she laughed.

The old man smiled at his daughter, "that's wonderful, my beautiful girl, absolutely wonderful. You two shall be bound (married) before this week ends!"

"Fortnight."

"Excuse me?" he turned to me after my words.

"I said fortnight, there is too much happening at the moment to worry about such trivial things such as a binding ceremony. It will happen in a fortnight and that is that."

The alpha stared at my his face turning a flight shade of red, his gaze turned towards his youngest daughter who stood across the room listening to our conversation, before tuning to me and nodding.

He kissed Camilla on the head and smiled, "I have stuff I need to do." he left.

"Help me!" a cry echoed across the room, in the door way stood a young man, maybe seventeen, he was clutching his side where blood was spurting.

He collapsed into the floor as people cried out in surprise. No one moved besides a certain blonde girl who walked with a purpose over to the man who was now unconscious on the floor. She knelt over him the ends of her hair getting dipped in blood, the checked his pulse and his wounds then smiled.

"He'll be fine," she said before leaning across his body and whispered something against his cheek.

I was probably imagining the words I heard her say, it was most likely something playing with my head, because I swear that what I heard her say made no sense, so sense at all.

"Now your souls belongs to me."
