Jaiden POV

Anna hadn't talked to me in days. Ever since we talked in the garden she hadn't said a word to me, or looked at me, I guess I could say that my feelings were hurt. But then again, I guess I didn't have any right to feel anything for her, when my mate, Camilla, was planning our bonding ceremony at this very second.

Why was I not with her?

Well I was caught in a stupid strategy meeting, where we were plotting against Brayden and the rebels. I was having a hard time getting my diabolical mindset on.

"Jaiden! Jaiden, are you listening?" My beta sighed.

We were gathered around a table in Alpha Delacroix's office. My beta and fourth were here, as well as Alpha Delacroix, his beta and third. I can't even remember the thirds name.

"What?" I asked turning to face Ben.

He sighed again and muttered, "We were just discussing what we could to to prevent another attack, sir,"

I glared at him, he was being sarcastic with me and I hate when people are sarcastic.

"Of course, that is a very important issue we need to discuss."

My lack of enthusiasm seemed to strike a cord with the other Alpha, and he growled standing to his feet.

"How dare you! How dare you come into my home, into my territory and speak so frivolously about an issue that YOU are the cause of. My people are being killed because you are here. And all you can do is sit there, stare out the window, roll your eyes and mock us!"

"Excuse me? How is this all my fault? if you had better security to start off with, none of this would have happened! This is your fault, you failed to protect your people. You. This is on you," I hissed also standing to my feet.

"Me? Do you forget that it was your man who lead the attack?"

I scoffed, "No I haven't forgotten that. But at least I know how protect my people and not sit around like vulnerable ducks!"

The Alpha's i twitched as he snarled, "Have you forgotten who you are talking to? I am an Alpha! You don't don't speak to me like that!"

No that really pissed me off. He was trying to avert his dominance over me. Well guess what, I wasn't going to let that go, no, someone was going to submit and it wasn't going to be me.

"You're an Alpha? I wouldn't have known it by the way you behave."

He let out a low threatening growl and I snapped.

"I. Am. The. Alpha!" I yelled glaring him the eyes.

We stayed like that, challenging each other. Until, very slowly, Alpha Delacroix lowered to his knees in submission.

"There that wasn't so hard was it?"

"Umm, sorry to interrupt, but I was told to come get the Alpha. There has been a murder in the village," I voice echoes across the deadly silent office.

A murder? Just my luck.

"A murder? Who?" The other Alpha asked standing to his feet giving me the stink eye.

The messenger who stood across the room, glanced at the ground nervously, "it was Dr Carmichael, Sir."

"Oh?"

I rolled my eyes at the Alphas inability to act, and walked out of the room, ready to investigate a murder.

Yay.

^^^^^^^^^^Time skip^^^^^^^^

There was so much blood, it made me gag. The clinically white was and floors were stained red as if someone had exploded a bottle of red wine. However, it was not red wine. It was blood. And in the middle of all the blood laid a man, a very dead man.

His eyes were rolled into the back of his head, his skin was a sickly grey. Not to mention he stunk - the down side of having super human smell was that everything was extreme.

The mans stomach had multiple stab wounds that ran from his navel to his collar bone. But the worst was his throat, it had been slit, yet it wasn't blood that flowed from the wound. It was a thick oily substance that inked out of the wound.

"Time of death?" Gray asked one of the detectives on the scene.

"02:45am yesterday, Sir," the man responded.

Gray nodded and then asked, "Cause of death and murder weapon?"

I scoffed and they turned to me, "Umm.... I think it was a bullet to the head with AK-47....." I rolled my eyes sarcastically.

They ignored me and the detective stated, "Cause of death was a deep cut to the throat. Our guess at the moment is that the murderer slit his throat, watched him bleed out, then in a fit of rage inflicted the wounds on his stomach. Murder weapon is a kitchen knife we found it over there. We are checking for prints now."

"So it was an anger crime?" I asked.

The detective nodded as a forensic specialist handed him a sample of the black stuff.

"Our biggest mystery at the moment is what this is..... I think that if we can figure out what this is.... we can catch our killer."

I nodded and turned away leaving the crime scene to the specialists.

As I made my way back to the estate I could help but send a little prayer to whoever was listening.

I prayed that we didn't have a serial killer on our hands.
