Abbie's POV -
"Dark?" I raised my eyebrows in confusion. What the heck was that supposed to mean?
Luke rolled his eyes and rubbed his temples in what I sensed was frustration.
"Yes, dark. They are known as the 'dark lords' or the more professional name of theirs is the 'lost souls'." Luke stated whilst putting quotation marks with his fingers.
"They uhh....only harness one emotion; anger. Well, of course they would they just lost their one purpose but, all they know and feel are all these emotions and feelings twisted together. They feel love, hate, anger, lust and frustration all at the same time. They are practically banished from living and instead of moving on and passing through to the 'next life' peacefully they set out to make everyone who they one could have and did care about suffer."
"Why?" I asked
"Why not?" he let out a humourless chuckle "you protect and love someone for so long, trying to get them to love you back - but then you watch them run off with someone else. What? your telling me that wouldn't make you upset? angry?" he asked whilst glancing at me with raised eyebrows.
"Well, when you put it like that it does seem kinda rational" I stated "so, how many of these 'lost souls' are there?" I asked.
"What in the world?" Luke asked and I nodded in response.
Luke shrugged his shoulders."I dunno. Hundreds, perhaps even thousands. Nobody can really tell until they are up close and personal with one but then it's kinda too late"
"Why?" I asked timidly.
"Really?" he asked sarcastically. "All they feel is anger and hate. So, what? do you think that if you went up against one of them they would be nice to you and try not to kill you?" Luke asked.
I didn't get a chance to come up with a comeback as he continued.
"Well, sorry to burst your bubble princess, but no, they'll kill you - And they'll enjoy it too".
Oh lovely! how comforting is that? These 'things' are roaming the earth, feeling only anger, and there is a high risk that your not gonna live if you piss one of them off!
I glanced at him nervously and met his gaze."umm.. how many of these 'dark lords' are situated around this area of town?"
"You mean how many of them are around you?"
"Yeah" I replied whilst biting down on my bottom lip; one of my nervous habits.
He glanced down at my lips before answering me. "Unfortunately quite a few, but that's your parents fault."
My insides deflated at his answer. "What do you mean my parents fault?"
"Your parents" he chuckled " well, they broke the rules - they didn't follow the plan. You see, the both had soul mates, but then they met each other. They fell in love, got married, had kids, yada yada yada the whole nine yards. Thus, causing their guardians to go dark like I 'just' explained. And basically, they put you, Tilly, Jake - heck they even put Jo at risk; and that's just because she's your friend".
My throat tightened at his answer. My whole family and people I know are at risk just because my parents didn't follow a given plan? That's messed up.
Luke obviously sensed my worry as with his fingers he tipped my chin up to meet his gaze. "But don't worry" he stated "that's why I'm here. To keep you safe and protected." He offered me a smile and I smiled sheepishly in return.
He turned away from me and looked at the clock on the wall. "It's getting late, you should probably get some sleep, that was a lot of information to take in" he stated.
I nodded and yawned in response. I shuffled up the stairs and towards my bedroom - I was well aware that Luke was following closely behind.
My mind was frazzled. I woke up this morning and my biggest worry was the family gathering - but now? I found out I have a soul-mate, who is freakishly hot with amazing eyes, that is not exactly human. And there are bad dark lord people that want to kill me and my family.
It's probably just a - strange - dream. I'll wake up and it'll all be over. Hopefully.
