“I want to know,” Lacy whined for the hundredth time since we got out of the car.
“No,” I replied for the hundredth time since we got out of the car.
“You’re so mean”
“So you’ve said”
“Just tell me,” she demanded.
“No and now you have to close your eyes,” she shot me a glare but I just spun her around and covered her eyes.
“I hate you Luke”
“Not after your surprise you wont”
“We’ll see Hemmings”
“Trust me Scott”
“You suck,” I could feel her pout by the way she moved her face.
“Just…hold on,” I told her. “Can I trust you to keep your eyes closed?”
“Yes,” she sighed.
“Thanks,” I said and kissed her cheek before pulling out one of Ashton’s bandanas and tied it over her eyes.
“I said yes!” she said and stoped her foot.
“I know but it’ll be too tempting to open your eyes once I sit you down”
“I need to sit down?”
“For a moment yes,” I said then we reached the fountain. “Here. Sit,” I said then sat her on the edge.
“I can hear water. You’re not dumping me in a lake are you?”
“No,” I chuckled, “just be patient babe. Wait here,” I told her.
“I kinda can’t go anywhere,” she called as I ran into the record store on the left of her.
I grabbed the two records off the counter and slapped the correct money in place of them. I then ran into the florets a few stores down, grabbing the bundle of five replacing them with money too. Last was the jewellery store. By the time I was there I was running out of breath but I just kept smiling due to my excitement. I grabbed the little purple box then handed the lady at the register the correct change.
“Have a good day,” she smiled.
“You too,” I told her then ran back to the fountain.
“I could hear you breathing from a mile away,” Lacy laughed causing me to chuckle breathlessly.
“You can take the blindfold off now if you want,” I told her.
“Can you do it?”
“I kinda can’t,” I said taking my bottom lip between my teeth.
She sighed and reached round the back of her head then let the black cloth drop. When she saw me standing with a quirky smile she let out a small and a giant smile spread across her face.
“What’s this?”
“Surprise,” I said and she blushed.
“Can I see what you have?” I nod and sat on the fountain beside her. “How’d you know?” she asked holding up the Arctic Monkey’s vinyl and the Paramore Vinyl.
“I do listen you know. Even when I look like I’m not pay attention I am,” I said and she smiled.
“Black roses?”
“They symbolise rebirth. Kind of like our relationship”
“Aren’t you just full of symbols?” she laughed. Once she got to the box she quirked an eyebrow at me, “this better not be a marriage proposal”
“No,” I chuckled, “just open it”
I heard the material moving as she opened the box. The two rings were presented to her and I swear she stopped breathing, “taken?”
“Look on the inside of them,” I urged her.
“I promise,” she read aloud and turned to face me with a puzzled look.
“They’re promise rings. One for both of us. So you know that I promise to stay faithful to you while I’m away,” I said picking out her ring and slid it onto her finger.
“You didn’t have to do this,” she told me. “I feel bad because I didn’t get you anything”
“Don’t worry about it. I wanted this to be about you”
“But I’m not the one who’s leaving. It should be about you”
“Well I want this to be about you. You’re the only girl I love and I wanted to prove it to you”
Before I could speak another word her lips were pressed against mine. The kiss was full of passion and love, which made me smile as we pulled apart. I placed my ring in her hand and she smiled before sliding it onto my finger.
“I promise to stay faithful while you’re away too,” she whispered with a smile as she looked me dead in the eyes.
She pressed her lips against mine but I decided to stop kissing her and lick up her face, “Luke!” she shrieked with laughter.
“I love you,” I told her.
“I love you too,” she smiled and kissed me again.
