“Lacy,” Chris said as he knocked on my bedroom door.
“You’re just going to get the same reaction as before,” I told him.
“Lacy…it’s time for you to go”
“Tell her no. Tell her she’s not fit to be a parent and you won’t put our lives in danger,” I suggested.
“You have to go Lacy. I’ll get into big trouble if you don’t,” he sighed.
“If you really loved me you tell her to go fuck herself,” I told him as I leant against the opposite side of he door.
“Lacy”
“I’m sorry. I just…I don’t want to go back I’m sick of it there already. She’s neglecting and she can’t cook for shit,” I heard him chuckle which caused me to smile slightly.
“Lacy…you need to go sweetheart”
“What if I don’t want to?”
“We’ve already established that you don’t want to”
“I hate her. She repulses me and I was more than content with never seeing her face again”
“Lacy dear,” Lillian spoke. “You have to go. None of us have a choice in this mater”
“What did they see in her? Couldn’t they see how much pain and suffering they would cause?”
“They did but sometimes adults are cruel and abuse their power”
“I want to see that jury again and give them a piece of my mind. Mostly consisting of not very nice words”
“Lacy…”
“Fine!” I screamed, snatching my bag from my bed and swung the door open before pushing past and sliding down the railing.
“He…” Joy began.
“Don’t talk to me or I’ll stab you in your sleep,” I grumbled.
I threw my stuff in then climbed in beside Markus. He looked just as unhappy as I did. Steve was in the driver’s seat and Joy got in shortly after I did. The ride was silent and tension was thick in the air.
“What do you two want for dinner? We’re getting take out,” Joy told me.
“I’m not hungry,” Markus told her.
“Me either,” I greed.
“Did Chris already feed you?” we looked at each other before looking at her.
“Yes,” We answered simultaneously.
“Really?”
“Yes,” we said again.
“Alright…” she said wearily.
I looked back at Markus and he looked at me. I raised an eyebrow at him and he mirrored it.
“Guys…someone from the agency is coming by on Thursday to check up on you two so please be on your best behaviour,” Joy begged.
A smirk plastered my face and I raised an eyebrow to Markus again. He smirked too knowing what I was planning. He gave me a discrete nod and I nod back.
“I know that smirk. Guys just pleas behave”
“We’ll be on our best behaviour,” Markus told her.
“We promise,” I smiled.
“Show me your hands,” she said so we did. “Now promise me again”
“We promise to be on our best behaviour when the lady comes,” we told her and she smiled with a sigh of relief.
“Nice to see you two putting in an effort”
“Who says this was putting in effort?” I asked.
“It’s just that…”
“You two don’t disserve our effort”
“Markus,” she scolded.
“Don’t start that shit with us. You never cared before so don’t bother starting now. We’re with you until mum and dad win us back or I turn eighteen. So don’t imbed the idea of us being a “happy” family into your brain because I guarantee you Joy…you’ll be very disappointed,” I said.
She stared at me in shock with her mouth open slightly. Steve grunted in response, knowing his words had no affect on us and he was powerless.
“I just want you two to be happy,” she said meekly.
“If you truly cared about our happiness then you wouldn’t have come back,” Markus told her.
“He isn’t even your father!”
“And you were never my mother!”
“I am your mother. You have my X chromosome”
“Thanks for the donation,” he smirked and she was now completely and utterly speechless.
