Chapter 14: Beautifully Ugly.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” Zack’s brother Matt asked sullenly as we hovered outside the tattoo shop. I looked up at the lit up sign. I swallowed and nodded at him.

“Yeah.” I replied.

“Okay, if you say so.” Matt uttered softly. Today was Peasnie’s first birthday. I’ve had my baby girl for a year, a whole year. Jenny, Rosie’s mom wanted to watch on Peasnie for the afternoon and I don’t mind that, she has every right to see her Granddaughter. Rosie’s going to Chicago to search for her dad. She won’t be in Peasnie’s life for at least another year. So far I’ve gotten her, her first set of drum sticks and a few new toys. For Peasnie’s big present I’m getting her name tattooed on my hip. Obviously my parents don’t know and they won’t know until I’m eighteen and legally allowed to do this. We got Zack’s older brother Matt to take us to the shop.

“Jimmy, tattoos are permeate, are you a thousand percent positive you want this?” Brian asked sullenly. I swallowed hard and smiled. He’s right; once I start there is no going back. I have to tough it out until the end.

Zack shivered behind us in his hoodie while Brian and Matt Sanders finished their cigarettes in peace. I stood in a black hoodie and jeans with a black tee shirt under the hoodie. I shoved my glasses back up my nose and smiled shakily. I can’t believe I’m fifteen already.

I inhaled deeply and walked into the store with my friends trailing behind me. The sounds of the tattoo machines buzzing filled the room. Zack’s brother walked up to the counter and told them what was going on. The tattoo artist looked back at me with a weary smile and motioned me to come over to her. I walked over to her with a shy smile.

“So what do you want babes?” She asked and popped the gum in her mouth. I pulled out the sketch I did this morning and placed it on the desk. She smiled up at me and took the sketch to the drawing board. I’m glad she didn’t ask questions. I went to sit down with my friends, my stomach full of butterflies.

“I can’t believe you’re actually doing this.”Brian muttered. I smiled and nodded.

“It’s for Peasnie, I’ll do anything for her.” I replied softly.

“She’s lucky to have you for a dad.” Zack said to me with honesty in his voice. I couldn’t help but blush at his comment.

“I’m lucky to have her for a daughter.” I spat back to him. The tattoo artist came back to the front and waved me back to the station. She was a tall with lots of curves. She had long bleach blonde hair and racoon eyes that were emerald green. I tugged my jeans down a little bit and pulled my shirt up to expose my hip. She watered the area down and places the stencil on my hip where it’d be covered. She smiled up at me.

“Go check it out in the mirror.” She directed sweetly. I smiled and held my breath as I went over to the mirror to chest it out. It was beautifully placed on my pelvis. The letters scrolled across my pelvis. Peasnie Ann Sullivan, 15/03/95 was placed on my hip. I smiled widely and let out the breath. I nodded at her with teary eyes.

“I love it.” I replied and walked back over to the station.

“Alright, lay down.” She said softly. I nodded. I lay down on the beach and waited in anxiety for the needle to hit my skin. The sound was going to drive me mad but for my little girl I’d do anything. I still can’t believe she’s a year old. Both Brian and I lost the bet, her first word was ducky. We were walking to Matt’s house last week and we had to walk through the park and we saw a duck, she pointed and screamed ‘ducky!’ I’m proud of her; she made me so proud by that.
