Chapter 46: Avenged Sevenfold’s Best Kept Secret.

2005.

On this sunny morning in Dubai we have an interview to do before we play a couple shows. I like Dubai, its nice and sunny here; it makes me feel like home. Only difference is America has less sand. We’re going home by the end of the week, I’m so excited to see Lacy; I miss her so much. She’s my support system. I can’t wait to hold her in my arms and kiss her lips. Oh man just thinking about her makes me miss her that much more.

I sat in the room getting my hair and make up done, I can usually do it myself but it’s nice to have someone help you out. I sat in a black jacket with a red and gold tie, no dress shirt better yet no shirt at all just the jacket and tie. My black skin tight jeans kept me warm in the cool room. I sat between Zacky and Johnny. I was more nervous than usual which is odd because we did an interview like two weeks ago and I was fine. There was just something inside my stomach that told me to not open my mouth.

The interviewer came in wearing a nice dress that was pink and orange. Her blonde hair was braided to the side. She smiled widely at us as she sat down, her big blue eyes sparkled.

“Right guys, you know the routine. I’ll ask you some questions and you answer honestly.” She nagged at us. I heaved a deep sigh and rolled my eyes before smiling falsely at her. I just wanted to be by the pool drinking a beer with my friends before we go to the show.

I swallowed hard as the cameras and lights finished getting set up and the count down was on.

‘Look alive Jimmy.’ I reminded myself once more but no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t look happy even with a fake smile. The interviewer, Liz; she talked to us happily and asked us questions that we were gladly to reply too. But the pit in my stomach formed into a knot when everything started to go down hill.

“So what do you boys think about the up roar in teen pregnancies in the U.S?” Liz asked with a Yankee accent. My head snapped upwards and my eyes darted over to Liz widely. The guys and I were quiet; they knew what I was thinking. I was thinking about Peasnie, she’d be ten right now. I wonder how she’s doing; she’s always on my mind. My eyes wandered down to my hip were the words laid like a still blanket of snow. I cringed and shivered at the thought. Nobody knows about Peasnie. I made sure she’s safe and out of the lime light. No ten years old needs this.

“Um, I don’t know it’s crazy to see these kids with kids.” Matt replied quickly before it looked too suspicious. I nodded sadly.

“Are you guys seeing kids in your futures?” She asked curiously. My heart jerked inside my chest. I forced a smile and shrugged.

“Not any time soon,” I replied to this question, the guys looked at me oddly. They knew what I was trying to do. I wanted to keep Peasnie a secret from the world and if that means acting like she doesn’t exist then so be it.

“I mean I do want to have one or two kids but that’ll be in a bunch of years.” I added. The guys nodded. The only person who doesn’t remember Peasnie that well is Johnny, he was only like seven when she was born. But they’ve met and stuff.

The day Peasnie comes back to me will be an odd day, it’ll be harder to keep her a secret. But I’ll make damn sure Peasnie is not in the line of fire for the media.  If that means that I have to say she’s a cousin who’s having family trouble and needs a place to crash then I’ll say that and if they figure it out I will make sure Peasnie covers up before leaving the house. I just don’t want her to be in the line of fire for the media.

“Jimmy there are rumors floating around that you’re a teen parent.” She snapped my mind back into the interview. Shit. They know about this, how did they find out? It can’t be that obvious. I smiled and shook my head gladly.

“I was pinned to be a baby’s father when I was a teen but I was proven not to be the dad.” I lied right through my teeth. Matt looked over at me with a concerned expression, he knew my reply just tore my heart out of my chest. I never once denied Peasnie as my own and I never will. Acting like the most important thing to you doesn’t exist is the hardest thing to do, it hurts so bad; pain isn’t even the word.

“Oh! So you were that kind of teen.” She specified. I nodded blankly; I wasn’t that kind of teen though, I was a better teen. Shit happens why can’t people understand that?

“Yeah but after that scare Jimmy was a little more tame.” Brian muttered in response. I crackled at his truth. The interviewer looked down at her note pad and smiled back at us.

“What’s your biggest secret?” She asked curiously. I laughed slightly and shook my head.

“If I told you, then it wouldn’t be a secret.” I replied. Liz smiled and giggled slightly.

The interview seemed to drag on and on for ages. But when we finally got back to the hotel the first thing I did was crack open a bottle of beer while the guys lounged around the hotel bar. They had drinks too. I sat down beside Matt and Brian with a stern expression.

“How painful is it to act like she never exists?”Brian asked curiously. I stared blankly at my beer and frowned slightly. I swallowed hard and looked at him.

“It was the hardest thing to not be able to send her message to come back to me.”I muttered softly. The guys nodded and swigged back their drinks.

“She’s only ten, it’s not like she can hop a bus and come see you.” Zack added. I frowned even more and nodded. I hated that he was right once again. I just wanted to look into that camera and say ‘Peasnie Ann Sullivan, if you can hear me or see me. I’m your dad please come home!’ But I couldn’t, that’d be dangerous for the both of us. She lives in Chicago and all I have is a P.O box number.

My attention was caught when Matt raised his bottle in the air and smiled slightly.

“To Avenged Sevenfold’s best kept secret.” He made a toast. I smiled widely and joined his bottle with mine, the guys soon joined in.

“To Avenged Sevenfold’s best kept secret.” I repeated.
