"Didn't expect you to have this much fun handing out candy to little kids," Lena said to Stef, as they stood before the doorway of the woman's home. In her hands, a decorated bowl of a variety of sugared snacks rested.
It had been October thirty-first, the holiday of which humans dressed as spine-chilling characters, divulged in frightening acts, and either received or awarded sweetened treats. Lena had been characterized as a disco woman from the seventies, all as Stef portrayed a policewoman.
The blonde haired woman slightly smiled as memories ran through her mind, replaying times she had wished she could gain back. "Well I used to hand out candy when things were different. Decorated my house, drank hot cocoa..." She referred to moments when she felt secure in success. "Times change. But, right now it isn't just giving treats to these kids...it's–it's being here with you."
The mentor's eyes lit up as she had felt appreciative of Stef's adoration of such moment. "Trust me, I wouldn't have wanted to hand out candy with anyone else."
Wholeheartedly, she meant what she had said. She knew that she and Stef didn't have the best start of what they were becoming, but she truly enjoyed every ounce of it.Besides, after what had previously taken place in Lena's kitchen—the emotional backlash of Family Week—both women had agreed that whatever needed to be discussed, would be discussed. They promised to communicate more–in a more vulnerable and in-depth fashion.
Stef, stationing her pupils into the direction of Lena, allowed her face to form a quick smile. She then leaned near the mentor's presence, adjusting her very own lips for a kiss of some sort.
Lena realized what was soon to occur, but before she could even place her touch upon Stef's, she couldn't help but to have her attention drawn away. Her eyes had wandered off to the lady-bug dressed child who stood before her home's doorway."Trick or treat!" The little girl shouted, holding out her pumpkin shaped goodie bag. "Happy Halloween!"
"Why, Happy Halloween to you too, Mrs. LadyBug!" Stef replied, taking a handful of the surrounding candy and entering it into the bag.
"Hey," after receiving her treats, the child crossed her arms above her chest, creating a face of pouts. "My name isn't Mrs. LadyBug. It's Katie."
Lena looked over at Stef, then back at Katie and said, "oh we're sorry, Katie! Your costume is—"
But, she had been cut off by the young soul, who could careless of whatever the mentor felt she need to say.
"You guys wanna hear a joke?" Katie positioned her eyes on the blonde haired woman, whose head had been moving in an up and down fashion. "Why did the bananas go to the hospital?"Stef's shoulders shrugged. "Oh, sweetie! I don't know but I'm sure you're gonna tell me!"
The other woman simply watched as Stef and the child interacted.
