Chapter One
A Familiar Face

"It's s-so cold out here!" Alfred muttered as he gripped the sides of his coat tightly with his mittens.

"I-I know!" I responded back, shuffling my arms together in an attempt to warm myself up.

Arthur, unlike us, wore a light sweater with some earmuffs and still managed to look warm as he carelessly hummed some song to himself.

"Stop complaining, you realise you didn't HAVE to come, right?" Gage glared at Alfred.

"B-But I wanna!" He cried lamely.

Gage let out a harsh sigh before turning his attention towards me, "You. Where's that idiot, Vladimir, at? He's late."

I unconsciously turned to look at my side, confirming his absence, but I didn't understand why. He had been ready to leave right when I woke up so I had figured he would have been the first to come here.

Arthur followed without a care but Alfred and I both exchanged looks as we searched for a way to stall a bit longer when, as if on cue, we were both suddenly put to ease by a familiar voice behind us.

"I'm here." Vlad said sternly as he made his way towards us, "S-Sorry I'm late.

Gage made a scowl before he continued walking on, "Don't make a habit of it."

Compared to even Arthur, Vlad looked far under dressed, only being warmed by a loose scarf. While it was strange, the look of concern was much more apparent as he walked up beside Alfred and I.

"Are you okay?" I asked, "I didn't get a good look at you this morning... Did you even sleep?"

Vlad hesitated for a second but even as he nodded, I could tell he looked sick.
