"So Damien, you feel like you have grown that you don't even respect the grey hairs on my head." Claudia said to Damien. She was seated accross him in his office with October sitting beside her. October was so uncomfortable.

Damien didn't answer.

"Just give her back her position. It's not like you're even staying here." Claudia said.

He shrugged and folded his arms.
"I'm here now."

"Damien....." Claudia started again.

Damien turned to October, interrupting Claudia.
"Can you excuse us?"

"Ehn?" October asked immediately, surprising not only them but herself too. She hadn't been expecting him to even spare her a glance. He gestured towards the door and her cheeks almost turned red in embarrassment. "Oh, okay."

October slowly stood up and walked out of the room. Chizoba was cleaning the hallway so she sat on one of the couches there.

"Aunt, don't worry. You'll get your job back." Chizoba assured her.

"How do you know?" October asked her as she leaned back and sank into the seat. How did she even know what was going on?

"Everyone knows he can't say no to his mother."

Well she was right because a few minutes later, the door to Damien's office opened and Claudia walked out smiling.

"Nwam." She called October. "He's waiting for you."
And with that, she left.

October's eyes widened. She was supposed to go see him? Now? She stood up and made her way towards the door.

Chizoba smiled and shook her head.

October rubbed her hands on her dress and knocked on the door. Damn sweaty palms. She opened the door and walked into the office. The cold look Damien gave her made her stop dead in her tracks.

She cleared her throat. If he was going to be her boss then she needed to drop whatever familiarity and be formal.
"Sir, you asked to see me."

"Did I ask you to come in?" He asked with his gaze still fixed on her.

It took some seconds before she realised what he meant.

"Oh." She retraced her steps and closed the door. Well that was awkward.
She waited for a few seconds and then knocked...but there was no reply. She knocked again, but still nothing. She sighed and knocked over and over.

"You know what, damn you Damien Ekwegh!" She grunted in anger and turned to walk away.

"Come in."
She turned to the door immediately she heard that. She scoffed and then opened the door.

"Sir? You called for me?" Her tone was harsh and he found that inappropriate.

"Attitude." He corrected her. He smirked and made a gesture with his hand, as if he was shooing her. "Not accepted."

She scoffed again. He was trying to get her annoyed. She was going to play his game well. She went outside, closed the door, knocked softly and came in after she heard his approval to do so. She faked a sweet smile.

"Sir, you called?"

"Better." He smiled and looked around the room till his gaze landed on what he was searching for. "Take that," he pointed to a moderately sized wooden box. "and that," he pointed to another "and that," and then another one, "and follow me."

"All of them?" October asked. She had to be sure he was talking to her and he was sure he knew who he was asking to carry those boxes.

"You're not deaf, are you?"

October took each of the boxes and stacked them on each other on the ground. As she bent, she hooked her hand under the last box and tried to lift it. It was like her backbone was going to snap.

Damien just stood up from his seat and began to walk out the door. She stacked the boxes on his table one after the other before she lifted them off the table.

Crap!
It was so heavy.

She met him outside typing on his phone. He looked at her, rose an eyebrow, shook his head and turned his attention back to his phone. She was walking like she had a hunchback. He was noting her every movement even if he didn't actually look directly at her. He made his way to the elevator and got in as soon as the doors opened. She walked in after him, trying to be as fast as possible.

Kennedy appeared in front of the elevator and seeing what was going on, he entered uncomfortably. He stood beside October.

The elevator doors closed and he whispered to her,
"Do you need help?"

He didn't know how Damien heard it but with the look Damien gave him, he turned away to mind his business.
