Jody's POV:
A surprise, huh. I wonder what he has up his sleeve.
"Can you tell me anything about this surprise?" I pled
"Nope." He says looking straight ahead. "I don't want to spoil it." Well damn, I guess I won't know anything until we get there.
"Fine." I groan and he chuckles.
"I promise it's a good surprise." He says setting his hand on my knee and gives it a squeeze before reaching for my hand. "Come on it'll be fun."
"Oh yeah...fun." Whenever I hear the words fun and surprise in the same sentence it never seemed fun in any way shape or form. I say that just because I've never been a person who loves surprises but I'll just accept it and go with the flow.
"Come on, get excited I promise you'll actually like it." He chuckles looking over at me. "Don't be a party pooper."
I look over at him with a shocked expression on my face. I have yet to be called a party pooper and I will not be called that by my....uhhhhh what is he to me? We aren't dating, at least not that I know of. But we are going on a date...eh we'll just see what happens from after this date. "Oh you did not just call me a party pooper," I say with some sass and he smiles.
"Oh but I did and what are you gonna do about it." He fires back. He's got a point, what am I going to do about that?
"Nothing I guess." I let out a sigh and cross my arms over my chest and sit back in the seat. "I'll just sit here quietly and wait until either you tell me or we get to whatever we are going. Whatever comes first."
He stops at a stoplight and looks over at me. "Well, I'm not saying a word." He grins at me with a big old goofy grin before kissing me on the cheek and going back to driving. Well clearly he's not gonna budge, that's cool I guess. At least he's keeping his word.
What seems like ages but it's probably only a few minutes he pulls into the old abandon drive-in theater. He puts his truck in park and turns off the engine and gets out. He slowly makes his way around the truck and opens my door for me. "There you are, my lady." He says offering me a hand down.
"This isn't what I was expecting at all coming from the big man on campus." I let out a little chuckle and look around.
"Well, I'm a fan of things from the past such as drive-in theaters, record machines. The list goes on and on, people would I guess call me a fan of vintage." He smiles looking around. "I know it's nothing special but I thought it would be cool to show you something special to me that I've never shown anyone."
"First-person, huh?" I ask and he nods. Then he claps his hands and every inch of the drive-in lights up creating a scene that would only be in the movies. Then not long after the music starts to play, slow and soothing.
"Can I have this dance?" Chase asks me with his hand extended out to me. I smile looking at his extended hand to his big old goofy grin that spreads across his face.
"I supposed." Taking his hand and he instantly pulls me to his chest and I can feel his heart beating a mile a second. "Someone's nervous." I chuckle pulling back a little to look at his face.
"You make me nervous." He admits looking back at me before he slowly leans down to kiss me. The kiss is slow, passionate even but not hungry as if he's a vampire and I'm his last meal. It's weird to think that I, probably one of the most unpopular and socially awkward girls in our school make Chase, the most popular guy in our school nervous. I never would've imagined for this to happen.
"I make you nervous," I repeat what he just says taking a step backward creating space between us. "I'm probably the most unpopular person in the school. Wait I'm not probably, I am the most unpopular person in our school. How could I out of all people make you nervous?"
"Jody I didn't mean it like that..." He starts to say but I cut him off.
"How did you mean it, Chase?" My voice almost sounds cold like someone else has taken over my body and I'm no longer the sweet innocent girl I was.
"What I mean is," He takes a step towards me closing the gap. "I've never felt this way about any other girl I've dated. You make my heart beat a mile a minute, you make my mistakes seem like happy little accidents, you make me strong when I'm weak." He sighs bringing up his hand to lightly touch my cheek. "What I'm trying to say is I've found my better half and it's you."
I freeze not knowing what to do. No guy has ever said anything like that to me. I definitely didn't think I would hear anything like that for the king of the school.
"Jody are you okay?" He tilts his head to the side like a dog would when you ask it a question.
I shake my head bringing my back to reality. "Yeah...I'm fine just didn't know this would be the talk we were going to have tonight." I let out a nervous chuckle.
He smiles and then brings his lips to mine and all my worries disappear.
