He searched around the front gates, desperately trying to find Lance before people noticed he was alone. His eyes focused on the tall boy, who waved at him. He smiled back and swallowed down about ten butterflies. Keith decided to act like his usual self around Lance, he didn't want to come off as fake, especially as soulmates can pick up on each others emotions very easily.

When he eventually reached Lance, the two began walking almost as if they had known eachother since they were kids.

"So, soulmates huh." Lance scratched the back of his neck, awkwardly laughing to himself.

"Yea, it's cool." Lance scoffed at Keith's remark.

"Cool? You just found out your soulmate and you think it's cool, I think it's crazy." Lance focused on the road in front of him.

"I guess it is more than cool, I just thought that I wouldn't ever get to meet my soulmate. I for sure thought I didn't even have one." Keith stared at his ring, occasionally glancing up at the boy walking next to him, admiring his freckles.

"So that's why you tried to get it off." Lance wanted to fold his arms over his chest, but felt himself let his guard down, stuffing his fingers in his pockets.

"Yea. I'm sorry about that by the way." Keith lowered his voice, he felt guilty that he had to put Lance through that pain, he knew how much it had hurt him, but he was used to pain. Lance probably wasn't.

"It's okay, but do not ever do that again. It felt like my finger was melting off." Lance glanced down at Keith's hands and noticed how scarred his ring finger was, but he shrugged it off. If Keith had been abusing the space around the ring for as long as he had he couldn't have assumed any less of it.

Keith bit his lip ring. "Of course I won't, now I've got a soulmate I wouldn't want to cut it off."

Lance felt himself drift in Keith's direction and decided to go with it. He had moved no more than an inch closer but Keith didn't mind it, normally he would hate physical touch but Lance made him feel safe. It was weird.

"Your hair is amazing." Lance admired the soft floofball of hair on top of Keith's head, a mullet suited the boy. Lance usually hated long hair on boys, but Keith looked special with it.

Keith ruffled a hand though his bangs.
"Thanks, I just grew it and grew it until it became this mess." Keith blew his bangs away from his face, only to see them coming back to crash against his eyes again, slightly distracting his view.

The pair chatted about random things before they reached their houses, Keith was going to just wave Lance bye and go into his house, probably to think about him for the night. Lance managed to grab ahold of Keith's wrist lightly and pull him back, Keith felt Lance slam a piece of paper into his hand and immediately knew what it is. Keith stared at the number before nodding and sliding it into his pocket.

"I'll see you tomorrow." Lance smiled towards Keith, watching him wave one more time before disappearing behind his front door.

Lance was about to walk off before he heard his front door open.

"Get in here now you son of a bitch." A voice growled from behind the door. He sighed desperately before turning around and walking up to his front porch.

A large hand grabbed him by the shirt collar and pulled him in, the force causing Lance's head to slam against the kitchen wall.

He winced as he sunk to the floor. Watching the door slam before the darkness surrounded him. All he could do was hope that he would make it out to see Keith again.

Keith's POV

I shut the front door, collapsing on the couch. Boy was I not expecting to find my soulmate on the first day of school. I glanced up as I heard footsteps walk towards me, and sighed when I saw the familiar face.

"Have a good day?" Shiro sunk into the couch adjacent to the one I was in.

I huffed in response, releasing my hand from the weight of my body and showing it to Shiro, the pink colour was still very visible.

Shiro leaned over to inspect the ring, noticing the pink lines that had covered it and he almost wanted to scream.

"Well, who is it?"

"Lance McClain." Keith buried his face into the pillow, he knew that Shiro already met Lance when he introduced themselves to the neighbours. Keith decided not to go that day, but he kind of regretted it.

"So your soulmate is the most popular boy in the whole of Voltron High, how convenient." Shiro chuckled to himself, running a hand through the white streak in his hair.

Keith just rose from the couch and trudged upstairs, he couldn't get Lance out of his mind. He swung his bedroom door shut and flopped into his desk chair, pulling open his note writing book. He wanted to write a song about their first encounter, whether it was cheesy or not.

After writing one line, he slammed his head into the desk.

He ignored the throbbing pain that emerged from his forehead and opened up Lance's phone number onto a contact.

New Contact: Soulmate

Keith: It's keith, just checking that this is the right number.

Keith placed his phone on the stand next to him. He continued to fight the urge to slam his head into the table once again.

He stared at his ring, which had turned a mixture of grey and white. He furrowed his brows, he wouldn't know why lance was both sad and in pain. Maybe the ring was malfunctioning. Yea it was probably that.

After an hour, Keith had forgotten that he texted Lance. He nearly jumped out of his chair when his phone buzzed.
