Molly's POV:
I ran my fingers through my white hair. I sighed. I just wished I could've saved her...It's my fault she's dead. I felt a hand on my back. I turned my head to see my best friend, Ava.
"Mind if I sit with you?" She asked.
"No, go ahead." I replied.
She took a seat next to me and wrapped her arms around me for an embrace.
"I know you're upset Bonnie died, but that's in the past. You've been so stressed and sad, I hate seeing you like this."
"Ava, I'm the one responsible for her death! I should've been more cautious.."
My closest friend, Bonnie, had passed away during middle school, only a week before we culminated. Me, her, and some other kids were being idiots on a cliff. We were messing around, and Bonnie was making jokes about falling off the edge, inching closer to it. The grass was wet, so she slipped. She fell off the sixty-foot cliff to her death. She had an adopted brother, and he seemed to care about her a lot, so he impulsively jumped after her, passing away as well. I could've done something...Could've told her that her jokes were scaring me. Instead, I stood there. And watched her fall.
I burst into tears. Ava held me tight.
"Shh..It's alright, Molly. Everything's going to be fine."
"Is it really?"
"Yes. Please, just trust me. I hate seeing you so upset."
I sighed again and leaned my head on her shoulder.
Ava took my hand and pretty much dragged me halfway across town. I asked her where we were going, but all she said was "Someplace special, just trust me." After about twenty minutes of walking, we arrived at an old, worn building. It looked almost like a mansion, but the windows were boarded up and the paint was peeling and browning.
"Where are we?" I asked.
"The 'special place'. You're gonna be glad I took you here."
She turned the rusting doorknob and led me inside. It was dark, and only a few candles lit the area. A large staircase laid ahead of us, and a short, glowing figure seemed to float down it. It drew closer before falling forward and through the floor. It then flew upwards in front of Ava and I. It looked like...
"Donnie! Great to see you..." Ava said, seeming uninterested in him.
"W-Wait," I stammered. "Y-You're Donnie? But...H-He's dead!"
"Yeah, and I'm a ghost," he said. I could feel myself starting to hyperventilate.
"Wait, if you're here, then..Does that mean--"
"Is that Molly?!" I heard a girl exclaim. "Well, it's been fun guys, but I gotta fold. Besides, who could bluff to those faces!" She chuckled, and soon flew in front of me.
"B-Bonnie?!"
"In the flesh! Well, not exactly...'Cause I'm dead!"
I tried to hug her as my eyes welled up, but my arms phased straight through her.
"Oh, right," she said. "Since I'm a ghost now, you can't really touch me, sorry."
She looked so different, yet the same. She wore her pink frilly dress with lace, but it was ripped up and dirty. Her bright pink hair was in her signature pigtails with ribbon, but it was disheveled. And she had a...Tail? Instead of legs? I decided not to question it.
"Sooo, gimme all the detes. What's been goin' on with life? You could ask about mine, but hey! That's long gone!"
She still had that adorable attitude that I loved.
"Eh, school's gotten harder. Much more homework and tests."
"Huh. Well, it's been pretty nice here. Cell service sucks, though. I gotta fly all the way up to the top floor to get at least two bars."
"That must be terrible!" I joked. We laughed.
"Hey, it's not like I've got things to do here! I can't exactly leave whenever I want to hang with friends or anything, and playing cards with a painting can get boring."
We chatted for a while longer, and the sun had soon fully set.
"Well, we should get going," Ava said.
"Yeah, you're right," I said. I turned back to Bonnie. "I'll try my absolute hardest to visit you every day," I told her. "See ya, Bon." Bonnie wrapped her arms around me as they slightly went through me. Although ghosts supposedly give off cold auras, I felt a warm sensation in me before she backed away. She took us to the door and we left. I felt bad needing to leave, but I knew I'd be seeing her sooner or later.
I felt like somebody was following me throughout school the next day, but whenever I turned around, nobody was there. Nobody looked like they were watching me, at least. I told Ava, and she told me I was just probably just a bit off from seeing Bonnie the day before. I could barely concentrate during my classes, Bonnie was on my mind the whole time. I admit, I had sort of a crush on her during middle school, and even after she died, I still liked her. Although I can see her now, and hopefully gain the confidence to tell her, it's not like we'd ever be able to properly kiss or anything.
I rubbed some pink lip gloss onto my pale lips and brushed some light blush onto my cheeks. I didn't understand why I was trying to look all pretty for just seeing a friend, we'd most likely just talk and hang out, and I'd leave an hour later. As I walked across town to the mansion, I found myself playing with my hair nervously. I shook off the feeling and opened the door of the building with a loud creak. Once I was in, I shut the door behind me and called Bonnie's name. Instead of her, Donnie came falling down the stairs.
"Um, I'm kind off looking for Bonnie.." I told him.
"Oh, okay. Well, I haven't seen her all day. She's usually locked up in her room, but she wasn't there."
"Hm..Alright, thanks." A few seconds later, I saw Bonnie fly through a wall. "Hey, Moll!" She exclaimed, doing her little hug thing.
(So basically when they touch they're not exactly touching but it looks like it and (to them) feels almost like it.)
I blushed and 'hugged' back.
