Bastion eased a yellow daisy into Susan's hair. She giggled as he kissed the bridge of her nose. They took each other's hands and continued to walk through a park dedicated to nature and wildlife. As they walked, Bastion noticed a unhappy look begin to spread onto Susan's face.
"Hey, are you alright, Susie?" He asked.
"Hm? Oh, y-yeah, I'm fine..."
"Susan..." He stood in front of her and cupped her cheek. "I know that face. Something's bothering you."
Susan sighed. "Can we sit down? It's sort of a long story..."
"Of course."
The two found a bench and sat.
"So, there's something I probably should have told you a while ago..."
"Yes?"
"I...I have a-an ex..."
"You do?"
"Please don't get upset! I know I should've told you much sooner, and--"
"Don't worry, I'm not upset. I'm sorry for interrupting. Please continue."
"Okay...There is this one boy I dated back in seventh grade. His name was Dominic. He was my parents' vision of a perfect partner for me; smart, good-looking, athletic, had good grades..."
Bastion looked away.
"N-Not that you aren't any of those things! I-I-"
"Please, keep going..."
"U-Um...We dated until it was a week before I moved here."
"Did you two break up because you had to move? If you don't mind me asking."
"No, I planned on us having a long-distance relationship. He...Had other plans..."
"What do you mean?"
"I wanted to hang out with him by ourselves before I moved. I visited his house, I had a spare key in case of emergency. I walked inside and called his name. I thought I heard something upstairs, so I went up and opened his rooms' door. What I saw killed me..."
She began to tear up.
"I saw him making out and getting very intimate with this bitch named Emma. She was a family-friend of his, and was three years older than him, which just made everything ten times worse."
"What did you do?"
"I threw the key at him as he pushed Emma off of him and rushed to get a shirt on himself. As I began to leave, he kept calling my name, and saying the cliche, 'It's not what it looks like!'. I blocked his number and immediately told my parents. My dad told me to give him a good smack on the back of the head, and I did. I told myself I would never love anyone again..."
She stifled a laugh.
"Until you came along."
Bastion gave her a soft smile and kissed her forehead.
"It's a good thing you're with me," Bastion said. "I would never do anything like that. And I swear, if I find that jackass, so help me..."
"Calm down, Bastion."
The two stood and continued their walk. About an hour had passed before they decided to leave and get some ice cream. They walked to a nearby ice cream parlor and both got ice cream cones.
"What flavor did you get?" Susan asked as they waited for their sweets.
"I got strawberry. You?"
"Rainbow sherbet."
The two got their treats and sat outside. It was a relatively warm day, and it was nice to feel the sun on their skin. As they ate, Bastion all of a sudden licked the corner of Susan's mouth. She squeaked.
"What was that for?!" She exclaimed.
"You had some ice cream on your face. Besides, I wanted to try some."
"You should've asked to try some!"
"Okay, okay, calm down."
By now Susan was a blushing mess. She then smiled, and leaned close to Bastion.
"You know, if you wanted to taste me, you could've just asked." She said flirtatiously.
"W-What?" Bastion asked, blushing.
"I said, if you wanted to taste me, you could have just asked. I would've happily accepted..."
She began to lean closer, and just before they touched, Susan dropped her head down and took a bite of Bastion's ice cream.
"Hey!"
"What? You got to try some of mine."
"Why were you seducing me like that?!"
"So you wouldn't expect me to steal a bite of your food. Also, horrible idea, my teeth hurt now..."
The two were silent for a moment before bursting into laughter. They calmed down and continued to eat their desserts. After throwing away their trash, they left to go to Susan's house.
Before they knew it, Bastion had to leave. He kissed his girlfriend goodbye.
"Hey," he began, "how's your appetite been?"
"Fine. I'm slowly but surely getting back into normal eating habits."
"Good. Remember, if you need to talk, I'm here."
"I know."
She hugged him.
"I love you," she said.
"I love you too, sweetheart."
