He came home too close to dawn for comfort...again. She confronted him about it.

"Where WERE you!? she asked, more worried than angry.

"Out. But you won't be mad at me for long." he grinned, pulling out a small box, giving it to her.

Inside was an expensive looking diamond ring with a silver band. She frowned, which made his smile fall.

"Don't you like it?" he asked.

"I told you to stop buying me gifts, Sam." she threw the box away from herself. "I don't want gifts. You know what I want." she looked at Sam.

"You know I can't do that. I just CAN'T." Sam said.

"Sure you can. You just WON'T." she said, before looking sad. "Unless..." she started to tear up. "...unless you really don't want to be with me forever like you said." she turned away, tears streaming down her face.

"Oh, no, no, please don't cry...Em, you don't know what you're asking...I've told you-" Sam started, turning her to see even more tears before she cut him off.

"I know what you told me! But it's not fair! Do you even want me around? Because it doesn't seem like too much to ask to me!" she sobbed. "I just want to be with you..." she looked at the ground, sniffling.

"I want to be with you, too, babe." Sam said. "But I can't just risk your life for what I want."

"But it's what I want. Doesn't that count for something?" Em didn't look up.

"Of course. Of course it does, doll." Sam said, holding her face in his hands, wiping a tar away with one of his thumbs. "Please stop crying. You know I hate to see my baby doll cry." he said gently.

"...w-will you at least th-think about it?" Em asked, finally bringing her green gaze up to his gold one.

"If it's what you really want...yes." he said, never taking his eyes off of her face.

"I love you, Sam." Em whispered.

"I love you too, Em." Sam whispered back, before he gently kissed her. Em wrapped her arms around his neck, almost out of instinct, deepening the the kiss. Sam matched it, his hands moving from her face to her waist, pulling her closer. Em complied without hesitation, feeling the cold of his skin even through both their clothes. Though she felt her heart beating like crazy, she knew he wouldn't hurt her.

He had no heartbeat, but Em knew that. When she first found out, it scared her. But now...she didn't care. As long as she knew Sam loved her, it didn't matter what he was, or wasn't. Before Em had realized it, she had been pressed against the wall, and her lips parted with Sam's, making her intoxicated with his taste. The taste of cinnamon mixed with the finest wine on the planet. It was the best taste in the world.

Soon he was kissing down her down her neck as she took a deep breath, still slightly dizzy from the kiss, though that was nothing new. Sam's lips lingered at the base of her neck near her collarbone. Em waited for him to pull back and tell her no again, but he didn't.

"Sure you sure this is what you want?" Sam asked in barely a whisper.

"Yes." Em answered in a whisper as well.

She heard Sam mutter something, before a slight pinch in her neck made her gasp, but after a few minutes it went away. It was different than she had expected. It didn't hurt at all, in fact it was....it was....pleasurable, and made a light, warm feeling within her. Wanting more of the warm feeling, Em pulled Sam closer by his shirt until his body was pressed all the way against hers.

Sam's hands were on both sides of her against the wall, but she didn't seem to notice. More. She wanted more of this feeling, but Sam started to pull away, looking at her worriedly.

"Em?" he asked, concern plain across his face.

Em's body suddenly felt heavy and she felt tired to the point of exhaustion.

"...I'm fi-" then everything blasted into oblivion.
