The flames were almost reaching the sky, and the smoke was blowing toward the road with the wind. Citizens were told to stay back, but Izuku had run right past the barriers. That was his building. His mom was in there. He had to save her. He may have been quirkless, but his mother was in there, dammit. He was almost to the building, too, until someone grabbed him and pulled him back toward the crowd. He screamed, the sound hurting his throat.
Then it happened. The fire was too much for the building to handle. It collapsed in on itself. He watched helplessly as firemen and Pro Heroes tried to protect the onlookers, and make sure the fire didn't spread. Izuku stared in disbelief at the chaos, as the building went down floor by floor until there was nothing left. It was gone. As was his mother, and another eight residents.
He was let go, and his knees buckled under him. He couldn't stop the tears that were running down his face as he watched the scene in slow motion. People shouting, people being carried out on stretchers, people crying over the lives lost. News anchors covering the action live. It all eventually became a blur. Everyone had been right...what could he, a quirkless middle school student do? But, he thought, what about the Pros who were supposed to help people? They were supposed to save the day, save lives, give people hope. And within three days....those same heroes had crushed his hope. It wasn't fair. It wasn't fair!
Deku sat up in a cold sweat, grabbing at his chest. Dammit. He'd had the nightmare again. With a curse, he brought a knee to his chest, resting his elbow on his knee and running a hand through his hair. When would it end? The nightmares, the regret, the pain....when would it stop?
There was a knock at Deku's door, and a cheerful, female voice came through the wood.
"Deeeekkkuuuu!~" it was Toga. It was always Toga. Deku sighed, ruffling his hair and leaving his bed to answer the door, leaning against the frame with his arms crossed. As annoying as the blonde could be, she was his closest friend. She smiled widely at him. "Shigaraki wants all of us down in the bar in ten minutes." she told him, looking him up and down.
Deku looked away, fully aware of the fact he was still in only shorts, with no shirt. "Fine. I'll be down, let me get dressed." he told her. She giggled, lightly touching his nose.
"Aw, but I much prefer you this way, Deku~" she teased, and he waved her hand away.
"I didn't ask your opinion." he mumbled, and moved back inside, closing the door in her face. He heard her whine on the other side.
"You're so meeeeaaannn Dekuuuu!" she pouted. Izuku rolled his eyes and flicked on his bedroom light, going to his closet. Ten minutes, huh? That was just enough time for him to throw on some clothes and brush his hair. Not that he cared.
Izuku turned on his radio, listening to music as he got dressed. He tossed on a black dress shirt, a red vest and some black slacks. He had matching red suspenders that simply hung off his pants. Then he ran a comb through his hair, turning his radio off after he was done. It was about fifteen minutes before he made it down the stairs. He could already tell he was going to get chewed out by Shigaraki, but he never really listened to the older male anyway.
"You're late." the white haired male said, glaring at Deku through his hand on his face.
"You're a pain in the ass. Guess we're even." Deku huffed, sitting at the bar, resting his chin in his hand. "What did you want, anyway?" he asked as he lazily looked at the TV that sat on a shelf above the bar.
"We have orders from our Master. Show some respect." Tomura growled in annoyance.
"He's your master, not mine." Deku reminded him with a cold stare, as Kurogiri watched the both of them wearily. They always tended to butt heads like this. He slid a glass of water to Deku.
"Behave, boys." Kurogiri warned them.
"I will if he does." Tomura said, pointing to Deku. The green haired boy scoffed and turned his whole body so he was facing the other villain.
"So what does All for One want this time?" he raised an eyebrow.
"He asked specifically for you to infiltrate U.A....get to know the students and their quirks." Tomura explained, looking away, clearly not pleased with the plan. Deku couldn't help the smirk that crossed his face. This was going to be too easy.
