Demetri wasn't lying when he said he was strict. Ever since the first evening, he hounded Abbi like a Navy General. When she did something wrong, he would make her repeat it until she would get it right. Their training began at sundown and lasted until dawn. Abbi was only able to sleep during the day, and only took a break when Demetri granted it.
Work hard and get it right, you gain a short break. Get it wrong, then work until you get it right. That was his system. And though it was back-breaking most of the time, Abbi lived through it. The goal was to survive all of her training until she could use her skills to avenge her family.
"Again." Demetri said for the fourth time that day. "The goal is to make the oppenent think he has the upperhand, then take it from him." he said as they circled each other.
"I'm trying!" Abbi hissed, as she lunged at him with her sword, slicing at his head.
He dodged it, using his own sword to ward her off until he smacked hers out of her hand, pointing his at her chest.
"You're not trying hard enough. Your opponent would be laughing at you by now, asking you for your last words." Demetri said. "Furthermore-" he was cut off as his foot was knocked from under him, his sword flying from his grip, as Abbi pinned him, putting a small dagger to his throat.
"Demetri." she said. "I love you dearly, but if you say "furthermore" one more time, I'm going to cut your tongue out of your head." she threatened. "Understood?"
"Of course my love." Demetri chuckled, before Abbi took the dagger from his throat and kissed him.
"Are we done yet?" she asked, pulling back.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk, trying to swoon the teacher now are we? That will never do." Demetri grinned up at her.
Abbi rolled her eyes at him, not letting him up. "It's a simple yes or no question, you know." she said.
"Hhmmmm...usually I'd say no....but I can make an exception." he said. "IF, of course, you'll kiss me again." he grinned.
"You're such a fool." Abbi smirked, but kissed him.
