The next few weeks were dedicated to Abbi's mourning of her family. She was distraught and barely got any sleep, because she either would wake up screaming in the middle of the night or she just refused to sleep.
Demetri never left her side unless she requested it, and even when he wasn't at her side, someone was outside her door, guarding her. Abbi didn't understand why she needed to be guarded, but she didn't care, as long as the guard stayed outside her door and didn't bother her.
Finally, one day Abbi talked to Demetri at breakfast.
"I want you to teach me to fight." she said, looking from her plate to Demetri. He didn't seem surprised or astonished in the least.
"I figured you'd ask me as such." he said as he put down his coffee cup.
"Then will you do it? Will you teach me to fight?" Abbi asked.
"Certainly my love. But I must warn you, I'm a very strict teacher." Demetri warned, looking at her.
"I don't care. So long as you teach me. So I can avenge my family."
"Fine. Meet me in the garden at sundown." Demetri got up and left.
And so the training began.
