"He paid you, didn't he?" He scoffed. "Just when I thought I could have a normal friend for once."
Todoroki's words rang through my head for the rest of the day. Denki offered to walk me home, and I was glad to have the chance to hang out with him again.
"You did pretty good today!" Denki exclaimed. I loved how he was excited with everything. I could be having the worse day and he could find the bright side.
I smiled softly at the thought. "Thanks, but I still came in last. Even you did better than me today."
He smirked. "I had my quirk to my advantage, dork."
"Still! I came in dead last." I sighed.
"(Y/N), you shouldn't compare yourself to others, only to who you were yesterday."
"Do you think that's how they decide who the number one hero is? By comparing them to themselves?" I took a deep breath. "Its all based on how you do compared to everyone else. And I came in last."
"Hey, hey, hey," Denki grabbed my shoulder and turned me to face him. We were outside my apartment building. "Its only the first day. You're gonna get better. Besides..." He grew a smug look. "Do you know how many people would kill to even place in a U.A. test? You should be proud to attend the most prestigious hero school in all of Japan."
I laughed. "Thanks." I glanced at my building. "Well... I'll see you tomorrow Denki."
He beamed at me, turning to walk back to his house. I know the way perfectly. "Of course, (Y/N)!"
"Tell your parents I said hi!" I yelled out to him, waving. He waved back before disappearing around the block.
I sighed, walking up the front stairs into my apartment complex. I was thankful that Denki took my mind off of Todoroki for a few minutes, but that was over quickly.
His words still bounced around in my head. I unlocked my door, dropped my bag onto a chair, and collapsed on my bed. I was exhausted from the craziness of the first day of school.
Before I knew it, I opened my eyes in the dark. I glanced at the clock on my nightstand. It read 2:06 am. Turning my lamp on, I went into the tiny kitchen and started making myself a bowl of ramen. I yawned.
After I finished making my dinner (or breakfast, your choice), I fell into a chair at the table with my backpack, and worked on homework until the sun rose.
I had always studied so much in school. It kept my mind off of worst things. Because of that, I was always top of my class. I was actually in the top 1% in the nation.
By the time I finished my homework and my own studies, I decided to head to school early. Maybe I could actually explore the campus a little bit, since I had the extra time today.
Tying my hair back, I strolled in the early morning. The sun was just above the horizon, the air still chilly, the grass still wet with dew. I always loved this. I mean, who wouldn't?
I had about forty-five minutes before class started when I reached the U.A. gates. I took a deep breath of the refreshing air, and just walked around the school. Most of it were the same hallways repeated throughout campus, but at least I had a better idea about my surroundings.
Down one of the corridors, I saw a figure slouched against the wall. Walking closer, I saw a flash of spiky, blonde hair, and wished I had just turned around when I first saw him. Bakugo saw me approaching, and glared until I was close. "What do you want, dumbass?" He growled.
"What are you doing, hiding down one of the halls?" I was not intimidated at all by this bastard.
"I'm not hiding, idiot. I just enjoy the solitude." He glared at me.
