All aboard the feelings train

Evan sat on his bed, scrolling through his social media feed. There were messages about him and the other girl he was kissing.

That girl wasn't Zoe.

Evan didn't know where his girlfriend was. Or was it now Ex-Girlfriend? Evan felt his heart accelerate. There was a knock on the door.

Connor Murphy was in his room.

"Connor!" Evan said.

"Evan..." Connor replied. "Congratulations."

"What?" Evan asked.

"You have invented a new kind of stupid-"

"What-" Evan was cut off by Connor.

"A damage you can never undo kind of stupid. Like opening all the cages in a zoo kind of stupid. Truly, you didn't think this through, kind of stupid? Let's review." Connor leaned against the wall. "You took a rumor, and literally nobody knew. You refuted it and shared a picture of you cheating on Zoe? What kind of sick monster are you?"

"Connor, I'm sorry!" Evan tried to make Connor stop talking.

"I begged you to not do anything; you refused to. You're so scared of what your enemies will do to you. But think about it, you're the only enemy you ever seem to lose to. You know why Jared can do what he wants?" Connor raged.

"Keep him out of—"

"He doesn't signify schoolyard taunts with a response, so yeah, congratulations!" Connor threw his hands in the air.

"Connor! I swear, I didn't mean it!" Evan shouted.

"You've redefined your legacy, congratulations!" Connor shouted back.

"It was an act of sacrifice!" Evan yelled.

"Sacrifice?" Connor said quietly.

Evan looked puzzled.

"I languished in a loveless life in New York City. I lived only to see your smile. I look you and think, God, what have I done, and what did it get me?" Connor felt his eyes prickle. "That doesn't wipe the tears or the tears away, so I'm back here, and I'm here to stay."

Connor made his way very close to Evan.

"And you know what I'm here to do..." Connor looked into Evan's greenish-blue eyes.

"Connor..." Evan reaches for his hand.

"I'm not here for you..." Connor yanked his hand away, moving away from Evan. "I know you like I know my own mind, you will never find anyone as untrustworthy or as kind. But a million years ago, Zoe said to me, 'This one's mine,' so I stood by. Do you know why?"

"I can't-"

"I love you, Evan, more than anything in this life. I would choose your happiness over mine, anytime. Now, Zoe is the best thing in your life. So never lose sight that you have been blessed with the best girl."

"Connor, I'm sorry. I really didn't mean it. It was just an accident!" Evan exclaimed.

"Congratulations! For the rest of your life. Every sacrifice you make is for my sister. Now you better give her the best life." Connor was at the door. "Congratulations."

The door slammed shut.
