I had this idea really early in the morning

The ship is a surprise!!!! Read to find out!

Oh yeah, this AU is where no one dies and it's like 3 years in the future. Evan released an album of songs he wrote.

Pssssh this ~totally~ isn't based on Ben Platt's real album...

"C'mon, Evan!" Zoe said. "Why won't you go? It would be only one date. Possibly more."

"I don't want to go on a blind date! Why would you set me up with someone I don't even know?" Evan replied.

"Well, it's good to get yourself out there! I mean, look at you," Zoe gestured towards Evan. "People a gonna be all over the idea of dating a singer."

"I'm not sure if you would call me a singer. I've only released, like, one album."

"You were playing on the radio this morning!" Zoe said. "You're famous! And a lot of dudes are looking for a cute 20-year-old."

"Dudes?" Evan spat. "How did you know?"

"Wait actually?" Zoe smiled widely. "You're not straight?"

"Well not really. I'm bi...I just haven't told a whole lot of people. Just my mom. Sometimes in my songs I might hint that it's not a girl I'd be talking about."

"Are you gonna go?" Zoe asked. "Please?"

Evan pursed his lips, sighing.

"Do I have to?" Evan asked.

"Yes! You need to! I have the perfect guy! He's gonna be so happy to see you."

"See me?" Evan's eyes widened. "I know this guy?"

"Oh shit..." Zoe covered her mouth with her hand. "I shouldn't have said that."

"Fine. I'll go. Just tell him I'll be at the ice cream place at six."

—————-

It was 5:57.

Evan sat at a table in the ice cream shop, nervously talking his foot on the floor. No one else was in the shop except the workers, and Zoe, who was sitting in the back, reading Harry Potter.

It was almost six, and his date was nowhere in sight.

Evan looked at his ice cream, hoping for something to happen. The vanilla swirled around in a spiral, and his pink spoon stood out like a sore thumb.

What is his date thought he was plain, since he liked vanilla? What if he thought vanilla was bad? What if Evan came on too strong? What is Evan couldn't be the best boyfriend? What if Evan wasn't his type? What if-

The door swung open, revealing the brown-haired boy to Evan.

Evan looked at the guy with disbelief. He gave back a similar reaction, making his way towards Evan's table.

"Evan?" Jared Kleinman asked. He looked around for anyone else in the shop. "Oh..."

"Jared..." Evan sighed, looked down at his ice cream. The swirl had melted a bit since he had last looked at it.

"It's...uhm...good to see you here," Jared said, bracing himself for whatever disappointment he'd be faced with.

"Yeah...you too." Evan played with his spoon, scooping a little bit of ice cream. Jared day opposite him.

"So...did you know about this?" Jared asked. "Did you know that Zoe set us up?"

"No. She said that she'd set me up with a cute dude." Evan shrugged as Jared tried not to blush.

"So..uh..." Jared tried to act cool. "You come here often?"

"I used to more often." Evan smiled. "I kinda stopped after a while though."

"This isn't really what I planned..." Jared rubbed his neck. "If were really being honest. I didn't know it'd be you. Not that I'm complaining or whatever. You're a great guy and-why are you holding my hand?"

"Am I not allowed to?" Evan asked, winking.

"Damn..." Jared mumbled. "Something has changed in you."

"Well no, something's not the same." Evan smirked.

"Please don't make any more references. I get them every day from my moms. Thank you for coming to my TEDTalk."

"Wait, weren't your moms in Falsettos?" Evan paused to think. "Oh yeah! They played the lesbians next door!"

"Yeah." Jared paused. "Can I ask you something?"

"I mean, yeah, man," Evan replied.

"Do you actually like me?" Jared asked.
"Like, like me? More-than-family-friend like me?"

Evan smiled.

"Is that a yes?" Jared asked. Evan still didn't say anything. "C'mon, Evan."

"Okay. Fine. I'll say it." Evan took a breath. "I don't like you."

"Oh." Jared let go of Evan's hand, but Evan squeezed it tighter.

"I love you, Jared." Evan looked into Jared's eyes. It seemed strange to Evan that he never actually noticed Jared's eyes. He thought they were just blue, but if you really look close, you notice the small part in his right eye that's brown.

Jared wanted to say that he loved Evan. He knew he did. He just couldn't form the words to actually use his vocal cords. Besides, was Evan really telling the truth?

"You good?" Evan asked. "Anything on your mind?"

"Oh-um...yeah I'm fine. Just thinking about all this."

"All that jazz?" Evan smiled.

"Definitely," Jared laughed. "Ooh, we should go see that!"

"Oh definitely. I'd love to see it," Evan said.

"Wait." Jared paused to try and remember something he was forgetting. "You were in it!"

"Yes, I was!" Evan said. "I mean, it's a good show, but I did it for like two and-a-half years. I'd take you to see Rent. How about that?"

"That would be amazing," Jared replied.

The two continued to talk about musicals, the school production of Les Miserables, the fact that Evan starred in one of the most rated-R musicals, and just all that jazz.

While walking out of the shop, Jared turned to Evan.

"So...are we a thing?" Jared asked.

"Darling," Evan replied, taking Jared's hand. "We're everything."
