Based off a prompt that ItsConnorMurphy and Gold1locks gave me

"Almost done. I just have to paint the shading on the face," Rich mumbled to himself, mixing a new color onto his palate. He dabbed a bit of orange, yellow, white, and a hint of red to make the exact tome he was looking for. After swirling the colors together, he dipped his brush into the paint, and started shading the nose on his portrait.

"Richard! Come down for dinner!" Rich's dad, Marvin called. Rich sighed, putting his paintbrushes and his palate up. He untied the apron from his waist, and got one last glance at his halfway unfinished portrait. The figure stating back at him closely resembled his best buddy, and longtime crush, Jake Dillinger.

Jake.

Rich had had a crush on his best friend for three months, and he had tried almost everything to get his attention. He tried asking him to dinner, sending candy grams, leaving notes in his locker, but nothing seems to work. Jake and Christine were almost meant to be. Rich was just on his own, pretending Jake was beside him.

It just hurt Rich whenever Jake wasn't with him.

"Richard! Did you hear your father?" Rich's other dad, Whizzer yelled.

"I can handle this myself, Whizzer," Marvin told his husband.

"Aren't I his dad too? We've been together for nine months-"

"Ten months!"

"Nine months."

"Ten months!"

"Nine months!"

"Honestly! Don't you two ever stop arguing?" Rich heard his little brother, Jason yell at his dads. Rich took this as a sign to go downstairs. Rich climbed down the stairs, as he heard his dads continuing to argue, and Jason yelling at them to stop. When he reached the kitchen, he saw Marvin about to throw a swing at Whizzer, the two still going at it.

"Enough!" Rich screamed, making the house silent. "Honestly! Don't you two ever, like, not fight?"

"See? I told you he hated it!" Jason yelled. Rich loved Jason more than he cared to tell. Jason was like the best friend 10-year-old Rich never had. Rich made a promise to himself to protect Jason in life.

"Are you two gonna fight all the time, when I invite Jake over tomorrow?" Rich asked. Rich's dads looked at each other, quizzically.

"Don't be weird, dad." Jason huffed, sitting down at the table.

"Dude! Your house is huge!" Jake exclaimed, looking around at the Brown's house. Whizzer was a huge neat-freak, and when something was out of place, he would go insane, whether it was when Marvin wouldn't hang his clothes up, or Jason left muddy footprints from baseball around the house. Rich and Jake went into the kitchen, to get snacks, when Rich heard Jake humming something.

"Down for the count, and I'm drowning in em'!" Jake sang under his breath, but loud enough for Rich to hear.

"Are you singing Helpless from Hamilton?" Rich gawked. Jake smiled, shrugging. "That song is my jam. My lady jam." Rich grabbed a bag of chips, some cookies, Mountain Dew, and the two boys headed upstairs.

"Where is your room? When you lived with Aubrey and Seymour, you kinda camped out in the basement," Jake asked. Rich thought about his last foster home, the Krelboyne's. They were fairly nice, and Rich learned a few important things from that experience. Like not how to raise Venus Flytraps...

"My room is over here," Rich answered, opening his door. Jake stares at awe of what was inside, and then Rich realized why Jake was so surprised.

The painting.

The unfinished portrait of Jake was still on its easel, for the whole world to see. The half-finished face, the millions of sketches, with Jake and him embracing.

"Did you...do all of this?" Jake hesitates.

"Nononononononono it's just like a school assignment-DON'T TOUCH THAT!" Jake had picked up a drawing of him and Rich kissing.

"What is this?" He asked, showing the picture to Rich.

"Nothing, nothing. It's just a stupid assignment-"

"Is this me and you?" His voice was filled with anger. "You drew this, because you knew that I'd find it. I'm your best friend...so you drew this, and hung it up on the wall."

"No, that's not what happened!"

"So I can look at some creepy drawing you drew of me and you! So you could tell everybody I'm in love with you? Right?!? Right?" Jake looked insane at this point.

"No! Why would I-"

He pulled the shorter boy forward. And with that, Jake pulled Rich's collar forward and kissed Rich. Rich let out a squeak of surprise, totally not expecting what Jake was doing. Fiercely, Jake and Rich moved their lips against one another's. After a while, Rich pulled away, gasping for breaths.

"Oh my god!" Rich panted. "I'm totally bi!"
