Chapter 2

           "Please be quiet!" The Science teacher said as he made a demonstration on the topic they were treating. It was practical, and he needed the students attention, for them to understand what he was doing, but Amy and Kayla had their own conversation going on.

"Ashley wants Duke back." Kayla said, "when he took Sandy out that night, they met Ashley and her friends there."

Then she looked at the teacher to make sure his attention wasn't on them.

She then whispered, "my brother is so dumb. He took Sandy to the same place he and Ashley used to hung out at, most of the time. I think he knew Ashley would be there, because according to Sandy, he was only using her to......"

"Miss Kayla!" The teacher called, "Can you tell us exactly what I just said?"

Kayla looked around her. She noticed Kim and her friends giggling. She looked at Amy who obviously had no idea what the teacher said. Kayla sighed. Her head bowed, and the feeling of embarrassment finding its way through to her.

The teacher noticed it.

"It's not your fault if you can't figure it out. You have to pay attention. Amy....."

Amy looked up at the teacher.

"Sit with Pete. Nigel come and sit with Kayla." He quickly said.

They all looked at eachother, a bit alarmed.

Sit with eachother?

           Amy moved to sit with Pete and Nigel did the same.

Kim looked at them. Anger clearly drawn on her face. She couldn't giggle or laugh anymore.

The teacher continued with the lesson, glad he finally had some silence.

        Kayla looked at Amy, who knew how uncomfortable she was at that moment. Nigel was sitting beside her. For the first time, and she knew there was no way she would be able to concentrate in class.

Her breath was short and steady as she kept a stiff posture.

"Relax." She heard Nigel say.

Then he held her hand. Kayla looked at their hands clutched together.

It felt weak instantly, but she felt relaxed also. She looked at Amy, who together with Pete and Kim, had their eyes fixed on them. Kim looked as though she would blow up from rage and jealousy. Kayla smiled and looked back at the teacher. As for Nigel, he cared less about them being watched.

        In the middle of the soon to end lesson, he started a conversation with Kayla.

"Your brother did not come over last weekend."

"Really?" Kayla asked.

"Yeah. I was actually thinking he would end up with my sister."

Kayla smiled.

     "You seem quiet most of the time."

She shrugged, without saying anything.

Nigel looked at the teacher and stayed quiet for a while before,

"my sister will pick me up after school. We will go to an amusement park, and I think you should come."

Kayla, who was unable to look at Nigel, thought of his offer while looking at the teacher. What was she to say? She wondered. She looked at Amy who was giggling and conversing with Pete.

Who could blame her? Pete was a very humorous person.

"Thanks, but Amy and I have somewhere going also." She calmly responded.
