"He's My Best Friend."

New Friendships Growing

Maia and her best friend Jill were on their way to school like usual. Maia was telling Jill about what happened in her vocals class with David the other day. “David is in my homeroom! He sits in the group ahead of ours, and he joined me and Tiffany’s group for this new assignment we have. He even asked me to be friends and show him around and everything.” She said.

“Wow, sounds interesting Mai. He’s so cute. I’ve seen him looking at me a few times when we pass in the halls.” Jill said.

Jill is usually the one to get all of the attention. Boys would always want to get with her because they would all think she is “hot”.  She was one of the preppy popular girls but she wouldn’t really hang around those girls because she has been best friends with Maia since they were in 8th grade together.

“Oh cool, why don’t you talk to him?” Maia suggested.

“He was supposed to be in my first period calculus, but I guess he switched to your vocals class. If he doesn’t talk to me, I’m going to talk to him.” Jill replied.

They got to school and first thing they spot is David walking beside two girls who were on the cheerleading team. Maia never really seemed to get along with those girls because they tried hard and were just too popular for her. David saw them and went up to them, of course the girls following still attached to him.

“Hey Maia, and you’re Jill right?” David asked with a little grin.

“Yeah, that’s right I’m Jill. Wow I can’t believe you knew my name. That’s actually such a compliment.” Jill said all perky.

“Well yeah I know of you, I’ve heard about you from some of the guys, plus look at you. You look like a great one.” David replied.

The bell rang for class and they all separated. Maia actually got this weird kind of feeling when Jill and David were talking. Who told David about Jill, why was he so into the conversation with her. Did he only come up to her because of Jill? Did he only want to be friends with her because of Jill? All these thoughts were running through Maia’s head after what had just happened. Yes Jill is one of her best friends, and David is just a guy she met but she never seems to have a friend or anything without Jill coming in. She wanted to get to know someone without everyone knowing them as well. She loves Jill but Jill could get on her nerves at time. Her seeking attention seemed to happen a lot. She knew that Jill was probably so happy because the cute guy she wanted to talk with talked to her first. Maia knows Jill and how she is like. They have known each other since 1st grade but didn’t actually become best friends until the 8th grade. Maia went to vocals and first thing she saw were David and Tiffany sitting talking about the assignment already. She took the seat as they were watching her.

“So, what song do you guys want to use?” David asked.

Maia and Tiffany at the same time replied “Safe in my hands is my favourite.” They looked at each other and chuckled.

“Okay, we can do that then. I think I have heard that song once or twice before, is it by Lieb Eli?” David said.

They started bursting laughing. “It’s Eli Lieb not Lieb Eli, but nice try.” Tiffany replied.
