A/N: chapter... 60!!!! Eep!
***********************************************************
(Sophie's POV)
The sun was starting to set and we'd been informed by Rick (he had just been promoted to head of security about a week earlier) that there was an estimated 800 people left. Which meant we'd meet a LOT of people.
"Hey." My voice was hoarse from talking loudly all day long as I saw my fifth group of men of the day. They seemed to be a rather rare species. I mean, type of subscriber. Whatever.
"Hey!" They all grinned. I hugged them, signed a couple of posters with our families faces on, took their twitter accounts (apart from one of them who I was already following) and posed for pictures. I noticed Phil had disappeared, probably to go to the loo or something.
"We wrote a letter." One of them, Aiden, gave me an envelope and I turned to put it in my box. The next second, I was on the ground, a security member hovering over me, pushing my head into the ground carefully and covering my body with his.
I lay as still as possible, knowing this was because security thought there was a threatening danger that could potentially harm us. I heard a bang and shot out of his grasp, to see the remaining crowd being ushered into the large tent behind us which we were going to move to when darkness fell.
"It's only a shop robbery, but they're armed. Get down!" The security growled at me, forcing me to the ground behind the table again. I stilled enough for him to loosen his grip before darting over the table to see those five boys still standing there. I nearly sobbed as I saw they were instead ensuring the women got to the tent first.
"Come on!" I hissed, grabbing their wrists. Security, seeing I wouldn't give up until they were safe, hurriedly led three of them away, leaving me with Jake and Daniel. "This way, guys."
I started to run towards the back of the tent, pulling them along as I saw my family being rushed away. I heard several more gunshots and I turned, terrified, to see several men in balaclavas, smashing down window after window, wounded people lying in the streets. We were the only visible people now and I decided we wouldn't make it to the tent before they saw us.
Almost hearing my siblings groans, I sprinted to a tree a few feet away. We dived behind it and I urged them to stay still, creeping around to check their location.
Unfortunately, these criminals were now prowling over the park, sensing money, but not knowing we had security. They probably thought it was a wedding or something. Our security flew out and the criminals were subdued, bound and unconscious before another shot as fired. I relaxed and pulled Jake and Daniel out from the cover of the tree.
"I'm so sorry." I bit my lip. They assured me it was fine, they just wanted to find their friends for now. We were walking along before another gunshot sound, too close for comfort. We hit the ground and I cursed. I should have known this was a robbery riot type thing. No ordinary theft, but something that would land us in a lot deeper trouble.
I twisted around and my blood ran cold as I spotted a masked man, not twenty feet from us, still hidden in the shadows of the tree we'd just hidden behind, where security couldn't see him. I opened my mouth to yell, but he raised a gun threateningly. The message was clear: yell, and I'll shoot you all.
I gulped and wriggled between Jake and Daniel and the man (it couldn't be a woman, wrong build) as they started dragging themselves towards the tent, still keeping low. I jumped to my feet and screamed, "Over there!"
I immediately leaned to my left and froze as a bullet whizzed so close to my head that my hair floated to the ground. Security were onto him immediately as Jake and Daniel sprang up. They remained still, not becoming a moving target and I did the most natural thing.
I threw myself in front of them and waited.

(Gemma's POV)
We were in the safety of a bullet-proof car, but all we could think about was the lack of a very important person.
"Where is she?" Phil growled and frowned deeply. I bit my lip and sighed.
"God dammit, let us OUT!" Jason hit the window forcefully but it didn't budge. We'd been locked inside.
We heard another gunshot and winced. I thought the danger was over, but apparently not. There was quiet for a bit, then:
"Over there!" The distinct voice made us all freeze in place.
"F*ck, Sophie! Can you not stay out of trouble!" Luke rattled the door handle but it wouldn't move an inch. Jason, noting the driver was looking away, slipped some pins out of his pocket and started to pick the lock. We waited anxiously.
A tiny click sounded and we all froze, but the driver hadn't noticed. 'Three.' Jason mouthed to us.
"Stay here." I murmured to Dan and Phil. They both shot me filthy looks. "Sorry, but we were trained for this."
"That's my girlfriend."
"I know, but-"
"She's my sister-in-law." Oh, God. I couldn't do this. I couldn't deny them... I tightened my jaw.
"Stay here." I kept my voice low as Jason reached one. He pushed on the door and we flew out, sprinting towards the tent. My breath came in deep, steady breaths and I lengthened my strides. I saw Sophie, standing in front of two men, security rushing about.
"Come on." Phil grabbed her hand - why did he come? - but she held her ground, looking over her shoulder to the men.
"No."
"Sophie, please. They'll be fine in the tent." Jason pleaded.
"No. Either go make yourself useful or go away." Sophie was so stubborn that I gave up and walked over to the two men.
"I'm sorry." I bit my lip and offered my hand in greeting. They shook it and I introduced myself.
"We're fully aware." The first one grinned. "I'm Jake, this is Daniel."
"Pleased to meet you." I smiled and we all walked towards the tent, Phil and Luke staying with Sophie (who still refused to move, incase anyone got towards the tent where HER subscribers were).
"Is everyone okay?" I called to the silent tent and people started gasping at the sight of Dan and I. "Any injuries?"
"Everyone's fine." Rick was glowering at me, clearly unimpressed by our escapee stunt.
"Good." I sat down and talked to subscribers whenever they came over. Which was a lot, but I loved to get to know them. My phone rang and everyone hushed. I put it on speakerphone.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Gemma, it's David." Everyone was holding their breath. "I've got some news."
"Good or bad?" I crossed my fingers and Dan squeezed my hand.
"Both." David said dryly and I frowned in confusion, everyone listening in. David's voice sounded a bit off, a bit deeper in pitch and slower in talking. I didn't pay it too much mind, though.
"What is it?" I said cautiously.
"Good or bad first?"
"Good..." I couldn't listen to anymore and news where possible. I was so afraid that David's voice was different because of crying. However, I wouldn't know, I had hardly seen him cry.
"Um, Ethan's not in pain anymore." David said, clearly holding back the bad news.
"What's the bad news?" I breathed.
"He's gone, Gemma. Ethan's truly gone."
