In Mr. Turner's class, I was half asleep.

"Love, sex, slander," Mr. Turner said. "Now even though not much was written about nothing was written 400 years ago, Shakespeare has captured raw human emotion in a way that is still riveting today. Still has us glued to our seats."

Shawn falling out of his seat caused me to jolt awake. Cory kicked him awake. "You know these chairs really aren't the best for sleeping," Shawn said, moving back to his seat.

"Oh, come on! You got this innocent young girl and somebody says that she slept with this other guy, right? And her reputation is shot and we think she's killed herself. Now where are you going to find this kind of stuff?"

"Melrose Place?" Topy suggested.

"Heathers?" I ask.

"NYPD Blue?" Shawn adds.

"Barney?" Cory suggested, earning looks from us. "My sister says he's gotten edgier."

"Mr. Turner, I like your teaching. I do, but we just can't relate to these characters at all," I spoke.

"Why not?" Mr. Turner asked.

"Because nobody acts like this," Shawn said.

"Just because some guy says something about some girl, the girl wants to kill herself over it?" Cory asked. "They say that stuff about Heather Locklear every week and she doesn't want to kill herself. She's on the cover of TV Guide."

"You're right, Matthews," Mr. Turner told Cory.

"I'm right?"

"No, you're exactly right."

"So am I done with my education? Can I go?"

"In Shakespeare's day, the play's the thing. In our day, I guess the thing is TV. So maybe we should put ourselves on TV and ask ourselves what we think about love, sex and slander."

"You mean interview each other?" I ask. "Kind of like a documentary?"

"Exactly!"

"Hey, you know, my uncle Ralph was in a documentary. They put a big blue dot over his face and changed his voice," Shawn said.

"All right, the school's got video equipment. Let's wear it out, okay? We'll split into teams of two. I want a video report. Interview your friends, your families and each other. Lets just see who's got the more mature attitudes. Shakespeare or us?"

"Us," Cory answered.

"Really? Okay, my mature young friends, pick partners." Knowing Cory and Shawn would pick each other, I smile at Topy who glanced back with a smile. "Uh, boy-girl pairs."

My gaze moved to Shawn who smiled back at me.

Later, me and Shawn borrowed a camera from the school, he held the camera while I held the mic.

"Don't drop it," I tell Shawn.

"I won't," he replied.

"Don't mess around and keep it on-" The record button came on. "Hi. I'm Betty Cooper," I say. "Today we're going to be asking friends and family how they feel about love." He kept moving the camera around. "Shawn, what did I just say about messing around?"

"I'm adding style to our project. You gotta move the camera. Don't you watch NYPD Blue? Subway Brooklyn squad cars. Lots of cursing," Shawn answered. I walked up, smacking him upside the head with the mic. "Ow! Angry blonde."
