At Chubby's, I sat beside Shawn in a booth while Topy sat beside Cory across from us.

"So tomorrow's the big day, huh?" I ask Cory.

"Yep. Tomorrow morning, Cory Matthews turns 16 and mobile," Cory answered.

"And I have worked out all the details for our big birthday road trip," Shawn added.

"You can get your father's car tomorrow night, right?" Topy asked Cory.

"Well, naturally. I'm 16, it's my right," Cory replied. "He probably filling up a tank from me, right now?"

"This is a life landmark," Shawn told him. "This is the first Cory drives road trip. The point is, we are merely guests of the car, the wind, and destiny."

"No, no. The point is, a license says we are adults with cars who can see an 'R' rated movie."

I shrug. "Okay," I reply, leaning into Shawn who wrapped an arm around me.

"I'm not going with you guys to some 'R' rated movie," Topy told them.

"Topy, the one I'm choosing, Van Damme takes his shirt off," I tell her.

"A-oo-ga," she replied, making me laugh.

"And that is only the beginning," Cory said. "The best part is, we are seeing it in Atlantic city."

"Why would we go to Atlantic city when we can see it right here?" Topy asked.

"Watch what happens now," I told her.

"Because we can!" Shawn exclaimed, slamming his fist on the table.

"Because we can go anywhere," Cory said, mocking Shawn's movement. "Because tomorrow, I got wheels. I am free and independent. Tomorrow, I am a man!"

"Who gets a clown burger?" The waitress at our table asked to which Cory raised his hand.

"A man, huh?" I ask Cory with a smile.

"I collect the little hats," he replied.

On the day of Cory's birthday, Shawn, Topy, and I went with him as he passed his driving test and got a license.

When we got to the Matthews's home, Mr. and Mrs. Matthews exited the kitchen.

"Hey, I passed my driver's test," Cory told them excitedly. "I got my license." He showed them the slip of paper. "Well, my temp license anyway. See?"
