At school, my mom was coming around less and less more often with working and let me just say, I was getting more angry by it, but I tried not to hide it.

"Nice shirt, Shawny," I tell him.

"Oh thanks," he said, looking down at his ripped yellow shirt. "So here's what I'm thinking for tonight, Chubby's and later, sneak into the drive-in for a make-out movie afterward."

"You'll look for any chance to make-out with me, won't you?" I ask with a smile.

"Yes, I will," he admitted. "But I will a flower like the good boyfriend I am."

I nod. "I like Chubby's and a make-out movie, but don't you have a curfew with Cory's parents?" I ask.

"So? I'll figure a way out of it. I always do."

Cory came up to Shawn, "Shawn, is that the new shirt my mom gave you?"

"Yeah. Looks all right now, huh?"

"Do you know what she's gonna do when she sees that?" Cory asked.

"My guess is clean it, sew it back together, and put an 'S' on it," Shawn sassed.

I wanted to say something about the way he spoke, but I didn't want to get caught in between my two friends.

"Look, she's just trying to be nice to you," Cory told him.

"And I'm just trying to get through this thing without making any waves," Shawn replied, wrapping an arm around me and walking with me in another direction.

At home, hours later-

I sat on my bed, staring down at the note my mom left. Her boss took a liking to her and asked for her to go upstate to go ski. Zack brushed it off like it was nothing, but frankly, I'm getting tired of this. We haven't seen her that much these past three weeks. She's either at work before we go to school or is working late shifts.

It was nine o'clock and I was supposed to be in bed, after taking my Adderall, but I didn't take it and I was wide awake. So I snapped.

I ripped the note to shreds, throwing stuff around my room and breaking things. I never really had anger issues, but I do now. When I had gotten everything out, I sat on the floor with my legs pulled up to my chest and my head in my arms.

"Whoa, easy, Betty Banner," I heard.

I look up to see Shawn causing me to stand up. "Dude, I am nothing like the Hulk."

"Looks like Hulk'd out to me," he looked at my now trashed room. "Why?"

I sigh. "My mom's gone."

"I can understand that," Shawn said.

"I haven't seen her in what feels like three weeks."

"Me too."

"And she just left a note saying she went skiing with her boss."

"For all I know, my mom probably is too," Shawn said.

"It's nine, Shawn," I say, looking at the time. "Aren't you suppose to be asleep?"

"I took myself out for a walk, if I want to see my girlfriend, I very well can."

"You still up for tonight's plans?" I ask.

"I was thinking we could do something a little different tonight. Something a little more to do to feel free, maybe a make-out afterward. You up for it?"

I glance towards my door and the ripped note on the floor. "I'm so in," I tell him, walking over to the window.
