At school-

I walked out of Mr. Turner's class and-

Oh my God. There was my best friend and boyfriend in cheerleading outfits. I tried to hold back my laughs as kids whistled or laughed.

Eric and Topy stood beside me. "Hey, check out the new competition. Pretty hot, huh?" Eric asked.

"Look at them, they must starve themselves," Topy added.

"I just get so nervous around such beauties."

"No wonder I never made the squad," Topy remarked, walking away.

"Well, Cory, those Buns of Steel videos must have paid off," Shawn stated.

I stepped forward, looking at them with every muscle in my body trying to keep in a laugh.

Cory looked to me expectantly. "Okay, let's here it," he told me, swishing his pom pom at me.

"What?" I ask.

"Make fun or laugh like everyone else," Cory said.

"Cor, come on. This is Betty, she would do no such thing. She's different," Shawn replied.

"Shawn's right," I tell him, digging in my backpack. "I am different. I won't laugh or make fun..." I pull out my Polaroid camera. "I make memories and save them for a lifetime." I aimed the camera at the boys. "Smile!"

They just sent me a glare as the flash went off.

After taking five pictures, I found the boys some John Adams hoodies and pants from the lost and found to wear.

"Ah, this sure feels better than those skirts," Shawn spoke.

"Well, I don't know, Shawn. I mean, there's something to be said for the freedom that they gave," Cory replied.

"Yeah, you thought that too?"

After a moment, they both shook their heads.

"I both call you liars," I chuckle.

"Well, we better get out of here before Frankie comes looking for us," Shawn said.

"Oh, not to worry, Shawn. Mr. Feeny just read him the riot act, remember? I mean, even Frankie wouldn't be stupid enough to mess with us after that, right?" Cory questioned.

Frankie came over, placing firm hands on the boys' shoulders. "Oh, you'd be pained at how stupid I could be." Frankie pushed them into Mr. Turner's class to which I follow after.
"You ratted on me and Joey. And as Joey used to say:" He changed his voice to sound very similar to Joey. "'Live by the rat, and die by the rat'."

"Well, what does that mean?" I ask, sitting on a desk.

"Well, why don't we ask him?" Frankie asked. "Oh, wait, we cannot, for my one and only friend, Joey, has been suspended."
