At school, Cory explained how his dad quit his job at the grocery store and how he was going to end up poor.

"And that's the whole sad mess I find myself in," Cory finished.

"Wow! And to think, you were my only rich friend," Shawn said.

"Comfortable, never rich," Cory replied.

"Indoor plumbing?" Shawn questioned. "Rich."

"Not rich," I state. "I have indoor plumbing and we're not exactly rich."

"Well, whatever we were, we're not anymore," Cory answered. "You know, I never realized how easy I had it."

"You had it easy, all right," Shawn added. "You, with your breakfasts in the morning, your lunches in the afternoon, your dinners at night. Eaters! You're eaters!"

I place my hand on his shoulder. "Babe, take it down a notch."

"Shawn, they put the food in front of me," Cory said.

"That's okay, Cor. You're my friend, and I'm going to teach you how to be poor," Shawn replied.

"Would you?"

"Well, it's not going to be easy. You come from a world of many pants."

"They put the pants in front of me."

"I'm just going to stand aside and watch this play out because I have feeling this is going to be interesting," I say.

"Now, don't turn your back on me," Cory told Shawn.

"Okay, Cory. You sound sincere. Let me ask you one question. When was the last time you slept inside?" Shawn asked.

"Last night," Cory answered.

"I can't work with you," Shawn replied, walking away.

Shortly after school, the boys plus Topy and I followed them to a science experiment.

"Cory, taking part in a research study is a ridiculous way to make money," Topy stated.

"I mean, it's amusing, sure," I say but Topy sent me a look. "But totally ridiculous."

"If you need it that bad, I'll lend it to you," Topy added.

Cory looks to Shawn who motioned for him to speak. "Well, Shawn says I've got to learn to provide for myself.'

"Well, then get a real job."

"Well, Shawn says I'm in no position to pay taxes right now."

"These guys don't even want to know our real names," Shawn speaks.

"Well, I think you guys are both lunatics," Topy stated.

"Yeah? Well, we'll see what you think after we get our 100 bucks," Cory stated.
