Chapter 39: Telling Josh

i open my apartment door slowly. a little bit scared to tell Josh where i was. I hear rumbling in the kitchen. I close the door and walked to the kitchen counter. 

Josh was putting food in the cabinets his back towards me. "You went shopping?" I asked. He nods and puts a can of corn in the cupboard. "Yeah, I have a surprise for you" he says and does a dramatic turn to look at me.

I give him a confused look and place my purse on the counter. "What did you do?" I ask. He smiles brightly. "I got a Job!" I gasp and clap my hands together. "Congratulations! What are you doing?"

"Construction! Remember how mom always said I had a thing for building, well now I can actually do it" i smile at him and give him a hug. "I'm so proud of you "

"You know, you're the best brother in the whole wide world, I wouldn't change you even if I could" I smile. He squints his eyes and pulls me away from him. Giving my a strange look.

"What did you do?" I scoff "why do you think I did something, Can't I just say nice things to my older brother...who was there for me for everything and wouldn't get mad at me when I tell him something he would get mad at me for" I said quickly.

"Rachel" he warned. I groaned "okay okay, fine! I'll tell you" he crossed his arms over his chest impatiently. I sighed and let it all out in one breath.

"I found out where papi lived and i send letters to him when I was younger but he never replied so I thought he never got them

I just now found out that he is 100 percent sober and he's had a guy follow me to report back to pa about me and you And he wants to see us but I don't know when."

Josh bit his bottom lip in anger. "What?" I gave him a nervous smile. "He wants to see us" he opened his mouth to say something then closed it.

He pointed his index finger at me and angrily turned away. "Wait josh!"I yelled after him. He turned back around. "Pa was a drug addict and an alcoholic! He tried to hit you more than once!

I had to stop him from killing you!" I nod "I know Josh, I know" he shook his head "no I don't think you do! When did you write these letters?" I stayed quiet.

"When?!" He yelled which made me jump. "In high school" I mumbled. He chuckled and walked to the living room. "In high school" he repeated.

I followed him in the living room. "Josh I'm sorry, I know I shouldn't have but I really missed him! I was 18! You signed up for the military I was going to be alone!"

He pointed to his chest "oh so now it's my fault?! Because I went to serve our country!" I shook  my head "no Josh, I didn't mean it like that "

"What did you mean then!? Because the way i see it, you seem to completely forget that your lovely father that you've been missing so much had his arms around your neck! Almost killing you!"

I felt a tear come down my eyes. "Do you know what it felt like to come home and find you on the floor gasping for air with pa on top of you holding you in place?"

He shook his head and put his head down. I felt more tears come down. The memory of that day coming back to me. "Pa is not a good person, he stopped being pa when mom died...Rachel don't you get that?" Josh said softly.

I nodded and sniffed. He wrapped his arms around me pulling me to him. I started to sob on his chest. He kissed the top of my head and held me.

"I'm sorry for bringing that day up, I know that day scared you" he mumbled. I sniffed. "The guy that he had spy on us. Was a P.I, he really believes that papi changed"

Josh shook his head "we don't know that, for all we know that P.I guy could be lying" I wiped my eyes and pulled away from him. "Josh, I know you don't want to see papi, and there's a part of me that doesn't want to see him either..

But if the PI guy is lying or not, we won't know that unless we see him" Josh sighed and sat down on the couch. Danger came from my room, jumped on the couch and laid his head on Josh's lap.

"When did he say he was gonna come?"  I shrug "he didn't say, he said that pa will come when he wants to" Josh started to pet Danger.

"If he tries to come see us or not, you are not to be alone with him" he warned. I nodded "of course"

He sighed and patted the spot next to him. I sat down laying my head on his shoulder. "I love you" I whispered to him. He grabbed my hand and kissed it. "Love you too sis"
