"Thank you"
Silently I hear Octavia approach me from the door of the Commanders Chambers. Staring over the ledge I've spent the last half an hour observing the people below, picking themselves off the floor or crying out in their newly given pain. Quietly I now carry mine, internalising it like I always do.
"You don't need to thank me", I murmur to Octavia quietly, arms folded across my chest "You gave him a cleaner death then I would've awarded him."
After a long moment of us standing in silence, Octavia's arm wraps around my shoulder. Feeling comforted by the gesture I lean into the affection, snaking my arm around her own shoulders. "I'm sorry about Wick", she empathetically apologises to me. Although I know it was meant to comfort me it does no such thing. The only thing which gets heightened is the guilt eating away at the pit of my stomach.
"I had no choice", I repeat the same mantra I have spoken since I stormed from the throne room. I know that it's true but my mind can't help but wonder over the possible ways I could've stopped him. What if I'd waited one moment longer? Could I have saved him if I'd waited one more moment for Clarke to save them? There is no way of knowing now but my mind keeps wandering and the guilt keeps growing.
"I'm sorry about Linc." She's silent. The only indication Octavia hearing me in the tightening of her arm around me.
"Avery?" Dropping our arms I turn around to watch Clarke and Bellamy pace cautiously into the Commanders Chambers. The worried look I see on Clarke's expression is confirmed when she states "We need to talk."
"Can't you give her a second the breathe Clarke?"
Before Clarke can respond I place my hand on Octavia's shoulder, "It's alright." Watching her tilt her head towards me I pull a tight smile onto my face. From the careful look on Octavia's expression I know she doesn't believe me. Never the less, Octavia gives me a nod before breezing right past the pair in front of me. But not before sending both of them a dirty glance passing them by.
