"All the loved ones you have lost... Avery they would've been proud of you. I know your parents would be."

"I've had a great mentor."

With Kane telling us of additional tunnels that run underneath the city, stemming from a temple in ruins from deep within, we encourage our own people to safety out the other side. A warm glow lighting the way I assist Kane is hurrying people through the tunnels and out into the open towards Arkadia. If our issues with Azgeda goes sour then we'll need as many of our people out as possible.

"Sir that's everyone we could find. Stationed ten guards at the temple door. Are you sure you don't want me to stay?"

"You lead them home Major" Kane instructs him, shaking his hand respectably "We'll be there as soon as we can." As soon as the guard has walked past me Kane's gaze finds mine. "Are you sure you don't want to go with them? The more leadership that goes back the better their chances will be."

Smirking I dart down a few stone steps as Abby finishes herding people behind me. "Let you all have the fun?" I rhetorically question him with a playful scoff "Keep dreamin Kane."

As I walk past Kane his hand outstretches, placing itself to sit on my shoulder. "I'm sorry about Wick", Kane offers his condolences to me softly "He was a good man. Saved my life on the Ark and helped us get here."

Swallowing hard I peer behind me to see Abby still shuffling people through the escape. Returning my gaze to Kane, his eyes watching me carefully. "It should've been me" I murmur quietly, pinching my eyebrows together as my throat begins to close up once again at the thought. Shaking the thoughts away I push them to the back of my mind. Now's not the time to lose it. The last thing anyone needs right now is a loose cannon. "We're way too young to have so many ghosts Kane. I've done things down here I never thought I would have to do..."

I trail off as Kane thoughtfully nods, his hand squeezing my shoulder comfortingly to silently tell me he understands. "We sent the hundred of you down here to die. We thought there was no chance you would survive", Kane tells me and I find myself laughing humourlessly.
