I cannot stop looking at her, the mysterious gray-eyed girl. That's my nickname for her. My eyes were glued at her the entire time, deliberately ignoring the dissuccion about trivial parts of the human skeleton. I'll just borrow Jin's notes.
For the first time I felt my blood rushing through my veins, every pulse in my body pounding. I was alive.
She wasn't the conventional beauty with full makeup or salon-treated hair, or skimpy clothing and revealing breasts. She's little different from the girls I "fooled around" with. She was far superior. To say the least, she reminded me of Emily. They were very similar in some ways, yet different at the same time, I can't explain it. There's something, I just can't point a finger to it.
She darted toward the door as soon as the bell rang, mumbling a "thanks" and a "bye" to our teacher, making me instantly run in pursuit.
I want to know her. I need to.
My spiked curiosity will eat me alive.
I tried to push my way in the sea of wild students packed in the corridors to catch up with her. But like the ghost that haunts me, she disappeared in thin air. I leaned on the balcony to catch my breath.
Giving up, I got my phone and texted Jin where I could find them, and trotted immediately after his reply.
I was at the bottom of the stairs when I spotted the girl I was looking for. She was speaking with our vice principal, Ms. Keen. They seemed to be very serious, so I leaned against the wall, keeping out of sight to eavesdrop.
"Miss Keen, I don't think I can do this."
"Please, Mia. Let's give it a few more days. Okay if it doesn't work out tomorrow, I'll tell your dad. But we need to get you out of the house. It's been too long, and you need to interact with others, not just me or your dad. This is for your own good. Promise me you'll try again, you've just passed the first period anyways, it's a good step forward."
Ah, so her name is Mia. Okay.
"I want to go home," she sounded desperate. She was crying.
My heart ached for her. Her manner in speaking reminded me of my desperate whining, my inclination to be left alone and let loneliness cradle me to my grave.
"Okay, come stay with me at the office. We'll sort out your schedule, so that you'll attend the classes I hold. We'll take slow, baby steps. I promise you, I'll be with you all the way. Okay? But in return, you have to do this. Please, don't deprive yourself of happiness that the outside world gives. You're such an intelligent girl, and my heart hurts thinking you're shutting yourself in. There's only so much I can teach you at home. But here in school, you will learn so much more. I hope you grow to enjoy it one day. I believe in you!"
She obliged, followed Ms. Keen to the office. So she was home schooled. She never left her house. She lives with her dad. Where's her mom though?
What happened to you, gray-eyed girl?
Why am I so intrigued by you?
Why do I feel this way for you?
