Author's POV
He was elated. He wasn't expecting anything at all because simply having her around was more than enough. So as soon as he heard those words from her, it was such a magical moment for him. He felt like his chest would explode, his emotions were overwhelming and could only manifest in his eyes as they sparkle with tears collecting at the edges, his face slightly pressed against her neck and his arms wrapped around her waist unwilling to put even a small distance between them, and his voice quivering as he whispers in her ears "I love you, Mia" over and over.
"I love you, Yoongi."
He was supposed to be used to hearing these three words along with his name. Because each time he hears these three words, he finishes his business with the speaker and pretend that nothing happened, going back to being strangers. Because of these three words, the girls he "played" with were left with a broken heart. It wasn't his intention to hurt them, dear me, no. But of course, someone had to suffer the consequences of being with a guy who only wishes to satisfy his needs, to find that someone who will fill the void that Emily has left when she passed away unexpectedly. Sadly, none of them was successful to fill that emptiness.
It is, however, sad to admit that he didn't feel this way when Emily said yes to him, to finally becoming a couple. He was happy, yes. Do not get me wrong, oh no. Yoongi loved Emily not just for the reason of first love, no. They were in love, and it was beautiful. Emily filled his heart with so much love.
"I love you, Yoongi."
It was so different when Mia said them. Because as soon as she did, sparks of life came bursting out of nowhere. Like a cosmic explosion, like each breathtaking sunrise to give the surroundings a vibrant color, like the echoing chirps of morning birds waking up the earth, even the faintest sound of blooming flowers' petals could be discerned... It was so magical!
"I love you, Yoongi."
Mia touched his soul in ways not even the heavens could imagine, giving him courage to step outside his boundaries and push his limits. For even until now he cannot believe he took a bullet for, he was able to put an end to her suffering by eradicating the source of her despair, he started to live again for her. Theo is long gone, and will never hurt her again.
She closed her eyes as she tightened her hold on him, she could feel his heart drumming wildly. This was exactly how she envisioned this night to go.
She had been asking when was that time she realized that she was ready to open up her heart for him, to set aside her greatest fears, and trust him fully... It goes way back, a time when only Mia could remember, a blurry memory of a gripping, yet wonderful first meeting.
They held each other, without a care for others who simply glance at them with admiration and a tinge of envy, not minding the witnesses of a blossoming love story between broken hearts who found each other and mend together.
They were made for each other.
Alas, a romantic moment such as this was short-lived.
Mia ran into the arms of her friends, tears running down her face. She wouldn't tell them why, but she begged for them to take her away. Taehyung and Cara, seeing her pitiful state, offered to drive her home, to get her far away from all of this.
As for Yoongi, despair hit him when he understood it all, why she disappeared without a trace.
Because the moment his hands went limp and dropped to his sides as he detached his lips from Dana's hungry mouth, he caught a glimpse of a blush pink skirt from the far corner of the desserted hallway, clearly rushing away from the scene.
And Yoongi knew.
He messed up.
