"You think this is her size? What if it's too small?"

Namjoon and Hoseok looked over my shoulder to check on the pair of school shoes I was holding. They were wondering how they ever got in this situation, and was even so surprised that they agreed to come shoe shopping with me.

"If it's too big, let her put some crumpled paper on the toe part..." Namjoon examined it closely, then further said, "This is not fashionable. This is very hideous, Yoongi, I can't believe you chose this. I don't think she'll like this."

"She's not like the other girls, she prefers comfort and functionality, and give it here before you break it."

After handing me back the pair, Namjoon took a step towards the chair, but instead of settling safely, half of his butt slid off the chair, him landing on the floor, knocking down stacks of shoe boxes. I needed to press hard on my eyeballs as to not cry from extreme embarrassment.

I turned to Hoseok to give some money to pay for my choice while I helped Namjoon fix his mess. But before we could finish I spotted a simple black Mary Janes with silver buckles and a thick sole. I think it will suit her perfectly.

"Wait Hoseok! Come here." I yelled at him

"What's wrong?"

I picked up the display, twisted it side to side, folded it, tried skidding it on the floor. It's perfect!

"Can you try this on? You have the tiniest feet among us here. i have a feeling you have the same foot size as Mia."

"Why are you buying her shoes anyway?"

"Because damn girl just slips and slides everywhere all the time, for no apparent reason. Who knows, she could die one day from extreme clumsiness, she's so much worse than Namjoon and Jimin combined. One time she fell flat on her back, I saw it was a bad fall, but she denied pain. It's evident she's badly injured, she barely walked properly for days."

"Why do you care anyway?" both males asked in unison.

They caught me offguard. It took me a minute to answer. It's only infatuation, nothing more, I kept on convincing myself.

"I don't know..."

"It's not my birthday." Mia stared at the package I was handing to her. After hours of searching around the school premises, I found her sitting on the bleachers of our soccer field, a book spread on her lap.

"If you want to live a long life, wear these."

She opened the box and saw the new pair of shoes.

"It's best to get rid of your old ones. They cause you to fall more often. The rubber sole's already brittle. Look at them, they're chipped." I pointed it out as I knelt down to show her what I was talking about.

"You have new wounds as well, see here, your palms have fresh scrapes. Simply means you fell. Again." I was holding her hand while examining her wounds when I suddenly realized I should not be grabbing her without a warning. I let go immediately, and she soothed her palms.

I think I saw her smile, as she removed her old shoes and put on the new ones.

"Do they fit perfectly?"

She stood up, examining her new pair, and did some stomping, twirling, and took small steps before sitting back down. I bit my lip to stop myself from screaming because she was so adorable. I want to keep her in a glass case, and stare at her for the rest of my life.

"Yes, perfectly. Thank you. I'll try to pay you as soon as possible." She flipped the shoe box, lookong for the pricetag.

I shook my head. "I don't need any payment."

"Is there something you need from me?" her eyes squinting, fillled with suspicions.

I laughed. "I don't need anything. Just afraid you'll break your bones one day because of your tremendous clumsiness. At least your shoes are fixed now. Next is sending you to charm school, teach you how to properly walk..."

"Please don't throw my old shoes."

She grabbed my hand as I was about to throw away in the trashbin the paperbag with her old shoes in it.

"But they're worn..."

"They were my mother's. I'd like to keep it, please."

"Oh, okay. Sorry. Here." I gave her back the bag.

"Thanks, really. I wasn't expecting you to be kindhearted."

I scoffed. "That's a nice way to say thanks."

"You were always rude."

It was true. Probably my way of dealing with the anxiety she caused me.

"I'm not."

"You attacked me," she said with conviction.

"Okay, I have no excuse for that. Soon, I will explain myself for behaving stupidly that day," I held my hands up submissively.

"Stupidly is an understatement."

I lost count how many times she knocked me out through our entire conversation. I have no more words to say. I scratched my nape due to frustration. She is difficult.

"The girl you were kissing in the locker room the other day... You were definitely nicer and kinder to her, but not to me."

So she was stalking me. Interesting....

The girl was Poly, and she simply expressed her interest in me, and wanted to do something fun. What can I say, she was hot and tempting. How can you resist when the prey willingly jumps into its predator's mouth?

"Get to know me then. You'll be surprised."

"I know your intentions, Min Yoongi. I'm not your type. I'm just a girl and a freak who happened to not show much interest in you or any of your friends, and you just like the chase, or probably a bet to get me to bed with you. I'm not that girl. I don't have time for silly games. I have much to deal with already."

"We don't raise bets, and we respect women. And you're not a freak."

She squinted her eyes, a habit she does whenever I trigger her to annoyance.

"Okay, don't look at me like that, I already told you I will explain why I attacked you, and you will listen to it. Anyway, you're just too blinded by your fears to even acknowledge the fact that I am an interesting guy." I blurted out my defense in the hopes of clearing my sins, but she glared, disgust and disappointment evident in her gray orbs.

"I was so jealous. Jimin was the one who made you smile. It should be me. I must be the one to make you happy. I wasn't planning on harrassing you. I only wanted to talk to you, but, I don't know what came over me. I feel so bad behaving the way I did, Mia."

She sat there frozen. Her gray jeweled eyes filled with uncertainty and despair.

"It still doesn't change the fact that you attacked me, Yoongi."

"I know. I'm sorry. My emotions got the better of me."

Silence filled the air. Both of us sat beside each other, our gazes on different directions.

I spoke softly, trying to break the silence, "If it's okay with you, I want to start all over again. What I did can not be easily forgotten. But, I hope we can start fresh. I want to be your friend. I honestly do."

"I need to know why you want to be my friend," she demanded.

"I want to keep you safe. I want to protect you."

With a puzzled look, she asked, "Why?"

"I want to."

I need to.
