The ride home was completely hushed, only the soft roaring of the engine of my car can be heard, and that little zZzZz snoring of the fat furball in Mia's arms, cradled face up with his fat paw on his pink nose while the other was hanging in the air because it cannot fold near his chest because it's too short. And too fat.

In my peripheral vision, I can see a wide smile plastered on her face, with slight blush on her cheeks. Most of the time she's scowl at me, or bare her teeth skittishly while throwing rebuttals nonstop. But today, her smile was more real than the last time I saw it, full of emotions, full of love.

Yes. I felt her love. It may not be that deep, but it's good enough for me.

"Seriously, that cat needs to be enrolled to a fitness center. He barely walked for a minute the whole time we're in the park, or character development..." I complained.

"Oh leave him alone. He's just a cat."

"Yeah, a very fat and lazy cat," I retorted.

We both laughed. I stretched out my hand for her to hold, and she did willingly. I brought it close to my lips and kissed it, making her look at me tenderly.

"I had fun today, Yoongi."

"Are you implying that we should do this more often?"

Her giggles were heavenly. "Probably."

Before I could speak, my phone rang. I handed it over to Mia and asked her to answer it.

"Hello? Oh Jungkook? Uhm it's Mia, Yoongi is driving right now...
.
.
Yes, we're on our way home...
.
.
What??........
.
.
Okay, we'll be there. Bye."

Mia, what's that about?" I asked, still looking straight ahead.

"Jungkook needs you at the police station. He said they took him for questioning."

~~~~^~~~~
As soon as we arrived, we searched for Jungkook in the station, finding him seated in front of an officer's desk. Seeing him there alone, trying to remain composed made my chest tighten a bit. To me, to us, he was only a kid, a very innocent child.
"I was at basketball practice that night. My friends made a video for that, for studying and strategies, I can provide it if necessary," I heard him speak in a low and calm manner.
When he saw us, his face brightened up a bit with a glimmer of hope, then smirked playfully when he directed his gaze where my fingers intertwined with Mia's, and giving me that "Ooooh" look.
"Yoongi! Thank god... Hi Mia! Oh look, Migi's here as well!" the boy said gleefully as he spotted the cat in Mia's arms.
"What happened? Have you called the others, or your dad?"
His face went pale when I mentioned his dad. "Yes, he's on his way with a lawyer."
"Hold on. Officer, hi. I'm Jeon Jungkook's friend. What is this all about?"
"A girl named Son Keila was reported missing two days ago. Since he was the last person seen with her the night she allegedly disappeared, we have to take Jeon Jungkook for interview. He just needed to answer a few questions, that's it."
This means he's the primary suspect.
"Sir, as I've said, I went straight to basketball practice after giving her a ride home. She invited me stay for dinner, but I had to leave for practice, so I only dropped her at the gate," the young one insisted, I can hear in his voice his patience wearing thin as the interrogation continued, but each answer he spilled has the exact same context. This kid does not lie.
I was listening intently on the conversation when I heard a familiar voice, making me snap towards the direction it was coming from. It was Emily's father. I was surprised to see him as he came out from another room, an officer following behind. Clearly he wasn't amused, as he snarled at the officer in a low tone, but judging from his expression, he was beyond furious. The arrogance in his movements intimidated the person he was talking to, almost as if he wanted to curl into a ball amd cry. My eyes were glued to him shamelessly, but it seemed he did not notice me, or he chose to ignore my presence. Tailing behind them was a tall guy, his face covered with mustache and long beard. He walked straight ahead, and went out of the precinct, disappearing into the darkness.
It wasn't too long before I felt my hand numb from Mia's strong grip, who was previously standing beside me, but now found her right behind me, pressing herself against my back, almost crushing Migi between us. Scared from the sudden pressure, Migi jumped onto my shoulder and desperately grabbed my neck with his short front paws.
"Mia? What's wrong?" I asked in a hushed tone.
She shook her head, but I felt her tensed and restless, as her palms started to sweat, and her grip became tighter.
"Yoongi, can we go now?" Her voice was shaky.
"Just a bit, okay? Let's wait for Jungkook's dad to arrive. What's wrong, love, tell me."
"Nothing, I just felt a little dizzy."
The officer stood from his seat to refill ink into his printer, giving Jungkook a chance to whisper his sentiments to me.
"Yoongi, I swear I did not abduct her, I wouldn't do that to anyone. I wouldn't even think of hurting anyone... Well, if it counts, most of the time girls ask me to ruin them in bed, but that's it, only when having sex... But I-"
My head whirled. I spun around to put my hands over Mia's ears protectively, "Okay, fuckin' stop. Too much information, Jungkook. Who's this girl anyway, and what's your connection with her?"
"Her name's Keila, and she's from Shallow's Peak High, a school just five miles due north. I met her through one of our teammates. Then three days ago, I went to fetch her from school to go on a date. We just had coffee that afternoon, then dropped her to her house around 6:30 pm because we had practice at 7:00 pm. And that's it. I kept calling her for the past two days but she wasn't answering, until today. Last call I made was 2:00 pm today, and it was still ringing. I swear, I did not do anything." His composed self crumbled, his hands trembled as he recounted from beginning to end.
"I know, Jungkook. I know you better than anyone. Don't worry. I think someone's trying to frame you up, but he won't succeed because we have proof where you were the night she disappeared. Do they have witnesses in the area?"
"I don't think so, it was dark in that street-"
I fumbled for my phone, looking for a particular video. "If this could help, here, I have a video of your practice, I was there. I think Jimin also has his own shot of this. check the date and the time. Call him to come if your lawyer thinks it's necessary to have it here now." After handing him my phone, I turned my attention to Mia, her expression worried and anxious.
After a minute or two, Mr. Jeon, along with I believe their family lawyer arrived. I greeted him and introduced Mia. He was very nice, but as he shifted his attention to his son, he hugged him and reassured everything will be fine. With Mr. Jeon here, Mia and I can leave without worrying about the youngster. His dad and the lawyer went about to find the officer who was doing the interview after we bid farewell, but before we left, Jungkook grabbed my shoulders.
"Yoongi, Mia, thanks so much for coming here. I was so scared all alone here. Aaaaand...sorry for interrupting your date."
Mia quickly hid behind me and shyly said, "No, no, it's okay, and it's not a date. He wanted to take Miyoon for a walk."
I snorted at her reply. "Yeah, she can't entrust her son to the father."
I can see how hard she was trying to hide her apprehension, but the ride home became uncomfortably silent. And when we arrived, it was like she was in another world. She got out of the car, straight to the front door, not bothering to say anything at all.
What's wrong, love?
