2 summers ago...
The summer breeze blew against the trees, creating a soft rustle of leaves, a perfect weather to ride our bikes and enjoy the afternoon, but just as the warm winds begin to caress our skin, the sky got gray and dark, followed by a heavy downpour. We had no choice but to stay inside.
Emily and her parents just got back from their two-week vacation in the Carribeans, and when I heard they got home, I went to see her immediately. At that time we're officially together for a year. Since we attend the same school, we're accustomed to seeing each other everyday. So this long time off of theirs was torture for me.
As soon as she saw me waiting by their front lawn, she persuaded her mom to come visit her grandparents some other time, saying she really wanted to stay and spend the afternoon with me. Mrs. Hunter obliged, requesting that we take care of the house while she and her husband are gone.
With the continuous heavy downpour, it was impossible for her parents to get home before midnight as the visibility at night was terrible, and her father did not want to risk driving through it.
Instead of lazily letting the dusk go by, she organized their luggages and purchases from the trip while I made dinner for us. I set up the table, with the whole dinner-by-the-candlelight, perfect timing since the power went out.
"Thank you for the wonderful meal, Yoongi. I had no idea you're such a great cook! This is really romantic," she said as she took a sip of her orange juice as we finished our dinner by the candle light as prepared by yours truly.
I rasied my glass to her, "Were you shocked that I could cook?"
She squealed in delight, "Yes, I've never seen a guy do some kitchen thing before, it's fascinating!"
"Marry me... You'd be surprised as to what else I can do."
"You're really funny, Baby..." her words unintentionally drawled, making me stop emptying my glass midway, and turning my head slowly to her.
"Pardon, miss? What was that I just heard..."
"What? N-nothing!" she giggled and started to stand and move away from me, knowing its effect on me.
I smiled from ear to ear, preparing to chase after her. "You just called me baby."
"Oh, did I? I said your name, you must have misheard..."
Like cat and mouse, we ran around the kitchen, and when I caught her I tickled her until we both fell on the floor, with her above me. We stared at each other for some time, butterflies rampaging in my belly. I swallowed hard before breaking the silence.
"I like it when you call me baby." I tucked her hair behind her ear to get a better look at her gorgeous face. We never really had any terms of endearment when we started dating, because I like it best when she calls me by my name. The way it rolls in her tongue is exquisitely sexy, despite her innocence. But before things go escalating into something else, she stood, held my arm to help me get up.
"We should clean up..." she whispered.
We started to clean up, I told her to wait for me in the living room as I finish but Emily insisted on washing the dishes. When everything was done, I walked up to her and encased her in a sweet embrace.
"Dance with me, baby..." I placed her hands on my shoulders, as I intertwined mine around her waist, pulling her closer. I nuzzled against the crook of her neck, inhaling her sweet honeysuckle scent.
It was perfect. The pitter patter of the water droplets creating countless rhythms and setting a romantic mood.
But I was stunned when she suddenly wrapped her arms tighter around my neck and kissed my lips, I could not even blink my eyes in disbelief.
